I hate them with a f#$#@%g passion!
Potholes, schools, burnt trains & busses,power cuts to name a few,
I work my ass off so they can get
FREE ELECTRICITY
FREE WATER
FREE HOUSES!!!

back to ftth and internet.

Yes there are a few companies installing/investing in fibre in SA. Dark Fibre Africa one of them. Whome ever is trunning FTTH( fibre to the home) is speculating BIG time, you see FTTH is worth zero if the local exchange/node is still fed by copper. So in essence they are putting the cart before the horse.

My company (and others) is now working on Phase 2 of BT's roll out of ultimately FTTH. Phase 2 (called NGA) is getting fibre from the local exchange to a D-Slam (this is a node or mux) that serves an even smaller local area. The programme is to have 13000 odd of these in place by the end of April. ONLY once Phase 2 is complete will phase 3 begin which wil be getting fibre to the curb/home.

Maybe the okes in SA know something but at a recent convention in Israel , i saw that they can get 100megs (limited range) on copper using a few tricks, of course this fades into oblivion compared to fibre BUT maybe in Jossies where you getting much much less the improvement will be so great that you will just accept.
