Rather race them as 3 year olds.

The reason there are no Grade 1 races in Gauteng is a matter of the calendar. I think there are plenty of opportunities to prove juveniles in South Africa. I like the schedule just as it is.

Spot on, Barry. The programme brings the Gr1 races in as the Juveniles develop through the season. Also, the distance increases as the Season progresses. I think many a good horse was blindly forced in years gone by, as they were prepped for the very early Gauteng Gr1 races.
Thanks,Flash Harry. In essence you are correct but in that statement I could very easily be labelled, as a Trainer. It is important for me to give you the 'inside info' which is not public knowlege.
1) You refer to our ' early ' fillies. At the time of Waywest Goddess, we only had a total of 15 hoses in the yard, 3 of which were juvenile fillies. No juvenile colts. Last year we raced with a total of 22 horses. 7 juveniles in total. Yes, we produced Variometer.
2) Our first ''stayer''as such which came to us unraced, as a ''chuck out'' was Parlotone. He is now a 5 timer. We just dont get stayers to train and our Owners dont want to buy them and wait for them.
3) Having had the support of more Owners this Season, we have more Juvenile colts than Juvenile fillies in our string. Because I am superstitious or dont want to tempt fate as such, I wont name any. But, this year we have one filly which is absolutely superb. And 3 colts....
Our first juvenile runner of the season will be within the next 10 days..... A gelding for Oscar.

OOPS! A little bit of knowlege is dangerous, it seems, from my side. The Juv programme up here declares the colts Nursery to be a Gr2 race. But, apparently, a ''circular/notice ''was sent out late last year, declaring that the status has been lifted back to Grade 1. Fillies Nursery remains Gr2.
Apologies, I worked off my programme and somehow this notice escaped me.... and also the 6 or 7 other Trainers whom I spoke to since Yest pm.
But, you heard it on ABC!
