13 years 2 months ago
Hi clan..
I'm just wondering, and I'm thinking, a well bred horse is worth following in order to make money, the problem is----i knw niks abt breeding,etc...
So I poise the question the all the clan, including the Muthis and Lips of our site..
Which horse in training, be I a 2 YO or 8 YO is the best bred racehorse in SA?

Havent given it much thought for current racing but Carpocrates must surely be the best bred ever to have raced here.
And I think Rakeen, sire of JJ, was the only Northern Dancer to have raced here?

Always a good question, but mostly because "well bred" means different things to everyone.
At the moment it would have to be Igugu. If we auctioned the whole lot, I would say she would fetch the most, making her the one you would want to breed with if money or value wasn't a factor.
I think we would agree just being a great athlete does not mean well bred. You may easily come from wrong side of the railway lines and be a freak on your family tree, never to be repeated. As a breeder I made that mistake a few times, taking a well performed mare thinking that the genes had just revealed themselves to me and I could turn the catalogue page.
It's amazing how clear it can be if you simplify instead of over-thinking everything. Avoid paralysis by analysis.

I wonder how many people would have called Ipi Tombi the best bred filly in SA or Zimbabwe even for that matter.
She was sold for R2000 right at the beginning of her career?? (I think)
Indeed Jack, breeding is truly in the eye of the beholder, however the old saying is quite accurate I believe........A great sire is needed to sire a great COLT!!!

Maybe he will be a better sire(if not gelded) than race horse?
He will make his cost back
