Great Knock by KP
13 years 2 months ago
Bored at work so had the Cricket on all morning and have enjoyed watching KP (tu)
Something that interested me was the convo by the commentators about nationality of KP and his ilk.
The co comentator a South African (not sure who) said we are all South Africans born and bred that are just playing cricket for England ..
what do you think of this comment?

I don't know who the commentator was but I heard the comments you mentioned. I could hear he was a Saffer, no question ... if the accent didn't tell me the comments would've! If I understood right he was saying once a Saffer always a Saffer and mentioned himself as one example. Sounded quite lighthearted to me though, nothing to get the hackles up.
I also watched the last 50 runs of of Pieterson's knock and it was most entertaining ... speedy, more like 50-over cricket than a test match. The crowd loved it! No asking "Where were you born?" ...

Are you sure it wasn't that Aussie Tony Greig :S as I know he's been doing some of it
Bottom line... you play for England, you are English... not their fault SA brought in ridiculous rules and they served their time in England before playing. And who is to say they would have become test cricketers if they hadn't come to England, not saying they wouldn't but nothing says they would have become as good staying in SA
Will be a good contest in the summer, I think SA has the best team in the world but they often lack the cutting edge and backbone to go on and win and England are no roll-overs any more... except against slow bowling on wickets that don't turn such as in the UAE

Tony Greig is the commentator. He was born in SA, played cricket for England and is now an Australian.

We have to put up with him a well. He just cannot stop talking and he does talk some real shit most of the time. I just mute him when his on. Him and Mark Nicolas are so in love with themselves that its hard to believe that they can actually think straight.
