Triple Million Challenge
13 years 1 month ago
The KZN Breeders 1600, a historic race run the week before the Vodacom Durban July, will carry a stake of R1m this year, up four-fold from 2011. The race will be open to all KZN-bred three and four year olds and staged at Greyville Racecourse on Sunday 1 July.
A new R1m race for juveniles will be introduced in 2013, run on Vodacom Durban July Day over 1300m at Greyville. The race will be restricted to graduates of this year’s Suncoast KZN Yearling Sale held between the running of the 2012 KZN Breeders 1600 and the 2012 Vodacom July.
As a further incentive, the KZN Breeders Club has introduced a bonus of R1m for any horse which, from next year, is able to win the R1m Juvenile race in 2013 as well as the KZN Breeders 1600 in 2014 and 2015.
This means a KZN Bred yearling, bought off the Suncoast KZN Yearling sale, would be eligible for three races worth R1m (as a two, three and four year old) and should he win all of them, an additional bonus of R1m would be awarded.
In summary, the only way to qualify for all three Million Rand races is to buy a KZN Bred on the Suncoast KZN Yearling sale.
In this way, owners are given three opportunities to win R1 million (plus the bonus), an incentive to support the local breeding industry – one which is proving itself nationally.
Roughly 250 yearlings will be offered on auction, a select band of outstanding pedigreed young colts and fillies with a strong focus on exceptional looking Thoroughbreds. Stringent selection criteria means only the best physical specimens will be available to protect the integrity of the sale, and to put out on offer the best yearlings KZN has to offer.
Online bidding will be offered for those unable to make the sale, while video streaming will also be introduced for the first time to afford international clients an opportunity of seeing exactly what is available.

What about a KZN bred yearling bought in any other sale.

Just to clarify:-
The KZN Breeders mile for 3 and 4 year olds which is run a week before the July is open to any KZN bred horse no matter where he is bought. Thats 2 chances to win a Rmillion race if you buy a KZN bred horse.
The new race for Juviniles over 1300m will be run for the first time on July day 2013. To qualify for this race you must have bought your horse at the KZN Yearling sale that is held at Sun Coast Casino.
@ MissBecky I agree it is a clever way to promote KZN bred horses!
