I would like to know how on earth can an auctioneer sign off change of ownership of an asset such as a racehorse on behalf of the owner without power of attorney to do so?

Anyone know?

Once you enter a horse on a sale ,that allows them to sell and sign on your behalf. Basically your entry is giving them P o A.

As long as we have being buying and selling it has been like that. Sure, however that it is in the small print.

Did anyone read the article in the paper yesterday where the Chairman of the Auctioneers society said, if I read it right, that ghost bids did not normally happen, and lawfully only the vendor can bid his horse up and only to the reserve, and the auctioneer must announce that the vendor would be bidding before the auction for that article starts? No secret vendor bidding is allowed by law.
The ghost bidder in the Levitt case was fined R1 million.

so basically the trainer can do whatever he wants with your horse...he can put igugu on a sale and buy it back for himself without notifying the sheik ...it stinks and im sure somewhere the owner has to be protected from this either by the jockey club or by the law of the country...
