Bet types should remain the same. Would be nice if they re-introduced the consolation dupla ( double).

Gold Circle has announced that the stakes for minor races will be increased by 8% in KwaZulu-Natal as from Tuesday, 24 April 2012.

Speaking at a luncheon to launch Champions Season at Greyville on Thursday, Gold Circle’s Chairman, Robert Mauvis, said that he was very pleased that the Company was now in a position to offer increased stakes.

He also announced that the fifth place stake that was done away with when the company was forced to reduce stakes, will be re-introduced at the same time.

Now might be a good time to advise all your owners of a 10% increase in training fees, Craig! Lol.

I am sure it's around 6 months for a maiden in SA and in the UK it keeps you for only 1month?

A maiden race in Cape Town returns about R35,000 to the winner. Deductions from that cheque at source amount to as near to 20% as makes no difference. So the nett amount is R 28,000 actually receivable.

It costs about R100,000 per annum all in (on average) to keep a horse in training. Industry players often 'overlook' the multitude of related expenses which land up in the owners mail box and which all contribute to the figure I quoted. Some centres and trainers are a lot more expensive than others so I am quoting an AVERAGE.

On this basis an average Cape Town owner with a competent Cape Town trainer would see a winners cheque disappear in under 4 months.

In addition there are fewer meetings in Cape town than almost anywhere else so the opportunities to earn are lesser. Ironically - that may well be one reason why the horses are better : Keeping soupmeat in Cape Town is definitely not a proposition. And the absence of opportunity encourages one to move them on quite quickly.
