You don't have to encourage people to gamble...............a large % are naturals............what racing needs is to capture a larger share of the gambled Rand from competitors, and unlike Riaan Du Plessis,I believe racing has many advantages............we just haven't used them.
( BTW I am 100% behind Straight Shooters idea of hero's.)

What a great idea... imagine the atmosphere...just like the world cup games were unique in SA so the races should be...
Lets just hope the corruption associated with anything BEE does not pull its usual tricks

i am a gambler, the reason why I back horses is because it stimulates my brain, I have to think, i can not sit in front of a machine and pull a handle or try picking a number from 0 -36 for no reason, or wait for a card that are delt by another person, when i pick a horse or a bet it is my decision and i am in control and that is what we have to sell, show people that there is more to it in racing than just pulling a lever tor pick a number or card.
i do not play anything else than horses maybe i am wrong but that is how i see it.

You make perfect sense SShooter but it has been made perfectly clear by Phums CE in which direction local racing is going....
PS. Should tellytrack not change its name to Tellyfootball or something like that?

James,I have posted that the reason I enjoy racing every day is the same reason as you.............every Racecard is my daily SUKODU ......but I make a profit when i get it right.
I believe that there is another market that would embrace that aspect if we can get them started.

Nevermind needing a hero, what we really need is a mascot! A real little Shetland "my little pony" called Zakumi with blinkers made out of buck skin, a Bantu "dwarf" jockey dressed in real leopard hide "silks" and a previously disadvantaged trainer named King Siswati the third to lead our indigenous horseracing revolution. A little pinch of powdered rhino horn won't go a miss either to kick start the breeding programme, if you catch my drift. F the 2010 world cup, we could be looking at the Arc de Pap n Vleis here!

agree, learn them to think,
You know Rob there is one problem with the youth today and that is they do not want to read.
My wife is a teacher and she runs the center where they run a computer program where the learners improve their reading skills. do you know that 90% of them is 3-4 grades lower on there reading than where they should be and there reading speed is way below the average person. I am now talking GR9/10 (old st 6 and 7) that means they also battle to learn.
Now you might think what this has do to with racing well to win and bet you have to read, and if you are to lazy to READ YOU WONT PUNT THE HORSES, HOPE IT MAKES SENSE

HIRE THAT MAN!!!!!
It is v v v interesting how south Africans flock to any identity that separates them from the thronging mass of wildebeest. Strong marketing tool.
We have such a beautiful country and diverse nation... spoiled and polarized by fat lil limpopo brain twats and ancestorally fatigued gobshites dressed in leopard skins with their jewels hanging free

they say if the mountain won't come to Mohammed, then Mohammed must go to the mountain. Down in Cape Town in the back room of a private library is a project being built - a project which is not a secret but too early to mention in public. It is the answer to the question posed by Straight Shooter. Some of you may even have been told about it already. It needs a lot of moral support in its infancy, but will be followed by all once it rolls out - and a following which will be loyal - which I believe already exists, judging from posts here over the last couple of years. The only ones to still bring on board are major industry players. But of course, they have to be made to see the merit - viability in the outcome in terms of ROI and building of market share. So, clanners, hang on tight - !! soon, all will be revealed.
