On a more serious note, even though the thought of a polytrack in polokwane is amusing, horseracing or rather following horseracing is a full time, time consuming occupation, even though I presume we all have full time jobs.

I have only been involved for 18 months or so but the amount of time spent reading news, articles, form, tips, comments, threads, collateral form lines ect is almost unfathomable.

The nature of the sport is not aligned to mass following but in the same sense it will never die because of the history, tradition and social perception of owning horses. Betting is probably the second oldest profession so no horseracing will never end but trying to give it the appeal of soccer or other forms of entertainment is and never will be possible.

Frankly horse racing has plenty of hero's and villains, both sell newspapers. What racing needs is to stop denying its past in its plans for the future!

great post SS but like already mentioned it seems like anything promoting horse racing is sent to file 13. give them soccer ideas and you are hero.

on the idea of a black hero I don't think we should 'create' one but we should rather wait for one rise up. I'm sure those examples you mentioned rose to the top as opposed to being pushed to the top.

Straight Shooter..nice letter...unfortunately in SA I have lost hope..I have over the last few weeks been seriously considering getting rid of all my horses..and I have plenty really nice unraced one and some which have just started..watching TT recently I knew why I wanted out..horseracing in SA is a non entity for 1000 reasons and cannot recover..Im giving it another couple months and then I will make a decision..it is no longer an enjoyment to own horses in SA.
