this whole draw after acceptances story was brought in to get rid of the small field problem..but all that seems to have happened is a an epidemic in cape town with horses coughing, off feed and having swollen legs??? but only horse with bad draws are suffering from these problems!

Never liked this way of doing draws. It will keep happening as most trainers do not want to run from a bad draw if you have a chance of winning. These days the vets do not need to give you a scratching certificate to scratch unless basically you want to run within the 12 day suspension peroid. 85% of the times the vet wont have seen the horse scratched.

If I was a owner I would tell the trainer to run my horse or p!ss off, this sh!t has been going on for far too long in CT....

Surely the solution lies in trying to make the course fairer(I don't know how possible this is or if there is the space).
I personally see no point in running horses that have no chance:
If you are the owner you have to pay all the costs with little possible return and as a punter.......... I dont want to punt a horse that's chances are adversely affected by a horse cutting in front of the field trying to get position from out wide.
The lesson racing is not learning of course is that if Cape Town needs a second course it should have been Milnerton..........sold!..........a common problem countrywide soon.
Racing doesn't need facilities for people who no longer come racing.....racing needs tracks designed for good racing, not good crowds...............the permanent infrastructure needs to cater for horses and grooms, the media/commentaters,owners/trainers and the friends that accompany.........for the few big days, there needs to be the facility for marquees and other temporary facilities.
That is surely the future.
