Coach Karl de Ridder received three times life ban and fined R5 000 for breaking four doepareëls. seemingly the Have a Deal story has 2 parts. They put the lights out on brother Take a Deal was backed for huge money in a race weeks before with the same story. The same result BUT there was a false start declared and all bets were off. Surprisingly, the stipes didn't investigate the "winner" and they repeated the crime weeks later.

he was no relative of Mrs Hemming - He was an Afrikaans guy

no he had nothing to do with jean barnard, this guy was a private trainer who trained on the east rand some where.

....we dragged this up on Charl's site many moons ago....was a big article in the Sunday Times ....substiuted horse was Kiev(was a winner and still in lower divisions) with one white sock that was painted with black "Mentone" a shoe dye....I think 2 trainers were involved one was Barnard who supplied the subsituted horse .....the other SM Fourie as Fourie never trained Kiev....Kiev later won 5 races with Arthur Faul and raced and placed in several A division races....:

The name of the horse was "Have A Fling"
