Safa said in a statement that Igesund had been offered a two-year contract with a mandate to reach at least the semi-finals of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by South Africa.

He was also expected to successfully guide the team through the 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifiers and earn a place in the tournament in Brazil.

Stupid mandate... they will fail in both.

Igesund is on a hiding to nothing. Appointing the best coach in the world wouldn't help us. The facts are that our local talent pool is dry, our support structures are inadequate and too many people who shouldn't have a say on how SA football is run have too much power and influence. Good luck Mr Igesund, you are the best we have. I hope your two years of hell will be lucrative...

Great coach, he will inspire these players to new heights. I am hoping he will do for the SA team what he had done with some of the unfashionable teams like Manning Rangers, Pirates, Santos and Ajax Cape Town by winning the PSL. Both Swallows and Sundowns he coached them to 2nd spot in the PSL. He will get the best out of our players.

how can he possibly get us a place? We have proven over the years to be very very poor - The only way we could improve would be to offer Nigerian youngsters false RSA ID's - Waste of time and money -

I infact really Like Bafana Bafana for this Afcon! I think we all needa get behind our boys here.
Yes their performances haven't been very good, but remember lastnight was a friendly! A 'prep' like a horse going for the met has 'preps'! So even mentally the players were not 100% into it. Like we get behind the Bokke and Proteas me thinks we should get behind our Bafana, regardless of the politics, etc, sports are suppose2 bring nations 2gta!!so let's try, who knows they might pull a PE racing move and win. Lol
