All you fellas who are punters have got this wrong. Betfair is great for punters, what it has done is bought down the price of a bet. Your totes gouge too much out -- 26% (no where in the world is the general take out so high), and your bookies percentages are too much against the punters.
The experience that we have had in Australia is that Betfair has rapidly grown the amount bet. Traders have come into equation, bookies now take much bigger bets because they can lay them off.
There has been a migration from tote betting to fixed odds, but as more tech savvy players get involved they understand the percentages better.

It can't be too bad...............turnovers are not declining..........2 of their competitors charging 2%-5%(Smarkets and WBX) have made no inroads into their business and both sites are virtually dead!
