But does the tipster do any good to society ?
We have seen in films the butler at the Carlton club approaching David Niven and whispering to his ear.
This is the old stereotype.
In modern society we have tipsters who write their stuff in the web, in public or using private messages.
Let's not question their honesty or knowledge of racing matters.
Let us further not question the profits they make from said activity, if any.
What do they achieve ?
Are they doing the same thing as the orthopaedics surgeon who discovers a new technique for the treatment of back injuries ? Will the Chinese invite our legendary tipster to Peking the next day to explain his method, like they invite the doctor ? Or the Japanese, or the Americans.
No.
But why ?
Other things being equal they should, or should n't they ?
The answer is that the tipster does no good to anyone.
If I know that La Corunia -the Spanish team- are close to win away against Villareal and if the bookies think highly of me, what will happen ? The 4.20 price they offer will be changed to 2.60 and it's goodbye.
In racing it's the same. If the first race tomorrow has 10 runners and if all the tipsters were lousy, again the same 10 were going to run, again some punters will be paid and some others will lose. So the racing authorities of the world don't even care about tipsters.
I 'm close to deciding it's a dead end street and more harm than good is being done, because the tipster is lowering the prices.

Well done Zietsman.
I recall you made a comment a while back about keeping a close eye on last 400 m times. Is this your foundation for picks? You always seem to use computer form.

Depends where the horse is located at those 400 meters.
You can't isolate I 'm afraid.

Computaform gives 400 to finish times for all runners. I'm not sure how they work it out, but it's there.
