I'm sure it was a question of 'fiancial viability '. I think 2 tracks are enough. My personal point of view and nothing more.

Ah ok, we will include Vaal as Gauteng.

Back to Newmarket - in a previous post you made, (and I can find it if need be) you mentioned the soaring share price of Phumelela (which has been on the up for years) was a sign of how healthy racing was. Now you say Newmarket was a casualty of financial viability.

How do you justify these statements?

Ken/Durb.
Arl/Frv.
Scotts/Grey/Clrwood.

Seems like 2 or 3 tracks will suffice.

They can still hold 3 meetings a week with 2 tracks ( As they often do ). So why have 5 racecourses...

The loss of night racing caused the biggest panic, only because the corporate juggurnaut would be in breach of it's agreement with overseas partners.

Furthermore, how many owners and punters did they lose through closing Newmarket?

What price do you put on that? impossible to work out the damage isn't it?

But tote turnover has never been better. Look at the intrest in UK racing. It now weighs in as something like 25% of turnover. I wish I had bought those shares at 50 c.
