RIP.
I believe he became a recluse becasue he got fed up with having to always answer about stepping on the moon. The only topic of conversation that came his way

Very sad and to think that one day he would come to S.A. and I get his autograph was a futile dream.

According to Reuters he was once asked how he felt knowing his footprints would likely stay on the surface of the moon for thousands of years to which he replied, " I kind of hope someone goes up there one of these days and cleans them up".

In 2009 we lost Michael Jackson. Now we have lost Neil Armstrong. We are running out of moon walkers. Rip
