@Chippy, so in theory you can hit the horse every single stride all the way to the line? This is crap, i'm sorry.
This horse was clear and still being smacked.
I thank you for your comments, but please check the replay before commenting as it sounds like you are commenting in general and haven't seen what actually happened in this specific race. have a look for yourself and then give your comment. I reckon you might agree with me that it was a bit excessive.......even though within the rules.....

Anything more than 20 through an entire race is automatically red-flagged.
I have seen the race. He rides the horse to the line, as required by the rules.

Clearly you are OK with the ride, but i am still not. Why punish the horse if he is already clear?? Why not put the hands down and ride the horse to the line?? Bernard is reckoned to be one of the stronger jocks and he still hits the horse all the way to the line. I am actually wondering how many times he hit the horse in the last 200m. It cannot be less than 8 or so, perhaps more. I would understand better if he was being challenged and he was giving up a little, but that wasn't the case. I also dont think he was being showed the whip.....he was hitting every time.
Anyway, thanks Chippy for going to have a look. It looks like we will agree to disagree on this one (tu), but your input is genuinely appreciated and again thanks to the forum for allowing this healthy debate. (tu)(tu)

the new sticks that are used are also very "horse friendly" unlike the old school days

@PeeKay
Many a good horse has been ridden vigourously to the wire so that they do not loaf in their future starts.
Horses that win easily 1st or 2nd time out can also end up being the smallest hearted horses because when they hit the front they think it is race over and don't challenge again if headed in future races.
The stipes know each jocks style and assess the vigour with which we ride knowing if we are too hard or too soft on our mounts, may the Higher Power help us either way...

@CHIPPY....point taken bud. This horse i'm sure has had a good couple of runs to exit the maiden ranks, so might have given up the ghost before in the latter part of previous races....perhaps that's why he was slapped till the line.....who knows?? From what i saw, i still maintain it was a tad harsh from Bernard.

".i hope he gets a good suspension for this!"
@PeeKay
A suspension takes away potential earnings considering that the jock rode all the way to wire as required by the rules, also earning winning stakes for his trainer, his owners and the punters in the process.
Job done!
Did u not back him and now feel the need to vent your frustration?
Comments like that is why fellow jocks and trainers don't want to be known on this Forum
Asking for an enquiry is well within your rights but wishing someone lose their earnings is harsh,

If he wants to hit the horse like this, then i hope he gets a suspension, loses his wages and gets a fine.
So what are you trying to say Chippy? It's OK to hit the horse every single stride till he gets to the line and then double smack him just before the line EVEN IF HE IS CLEAR OF THE 2nd and 3rd horse?????? Well, it's not fine for me.
Clearly he was going to earn a cheque...... and win...... and keep the punters happy!!! Do you get my point. Well let me say it again......he never had to hit the horse all the way to the line and then again twice before the line. He was clear at the post.
To answer your question, No i never backed him and if you know me i am not that kind of person. If i had backed him or if i never backed him is irrelevant. I would have still opened this thread.
If jocks and trainers don't want to be known on this forum then that's their choice, but if i bring up a bad ride in my eyes then don't blame me that they don't want to come onto this forum. You are a jock, so it seems like you have to stand by your feloow colleagues. I'm not!
Post the link, cos clearly all you are trying to do is give your opinion here......and i might add that you are not always right. There are many points of view and not only yours. Let's see what others think of the ride. I am glad to hear others' opinions. It's great! I'm afraid you are not going to sway my point of view in this instance Chippy

Perhaps he was whipping the horse's ass to save his own.
I do not trust him at all, after his July F up.
Don!t forget the "transparency" of racing.
Here is a good example..today's racing at Flamingo Park..... B/DSteenkamp wins race 6 with Kiissinger (20/1), then runs unplaced with the favorite in the next????.... Wtf

Last week I pulled one of the hottest chicks around yet on the weekend I could not even pull a fat bird.

The title of the thread is way out of line, regardless of whether the ride was over vigorous or not.
Watched the replay again and the ride looked fine to me.

their are to many arm chair jockeys and champions in there minds that shout from the stands. most of the time the shout and the size of the punt are coupled

peekay do you remember what the outcry was a few year back when andrew fortune stop riding horse and just win? no my friend, i no say abuse the horse, but the worst thing i hate with all my heart is to see the jockey stop riding the horse i back. i rather he is over vigorus than put hands down any day of the week
