The winner has an automatic invitation into the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Some of the great horses to have won this race are Sea The Stars, Daylami and Fantastic Light. Dylan Thomas is the most successful horse with two wins. Aiden O'Brien is the most successful trainer with seven wins and he will be gunning for a hat trick this year. Our own Muis Roberts won this race with Indian Skimmer in 1988. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_Champion_Stakes

The highly rated Cirrus Des Aigles has sidestepped this race for a much more ambitious target of taking on Frankel in the British Champion Stakes.

Unfortunately, for now, there is no free-tabsheet for today's card at Leopardstown and so, I think, we wont get to see the Champion Stakes on Tellytrack :(

John Gosden has warned that Nathaniel will not be "really fully wound up" for the Irish Champion Stakes. "It's very much the Arc we're looking at." ::o.

Trainer Ed Dunlop believes "all the signs are good" for Snow Fairy. "I wouldn't have run her if it was slow ground, so we're happy with the way things are working out with the weather".

Jockey Joseph O'Brien feels he could have been closer with St Nick's Abbey had he not tried to stretch Frankel 8-).

Seamie Heffernan is also going for a hat trick in this race with Daddy Long Legs.

John Oxx on Born To Sea
"We tried him without the headgear for his last start and it didn't work out"

So if you believe the nonsense that Racing is a Sport(Phumelea spin) then this Race should have been hyped and included on our cards as some of the best in the world were running there
