One of the sweetest wins I have ever had was Poetic winning this race (John Skeaping). I think she was a 4yo then

thats because the 8 time winner has won its 8 races from 60 to 80 odd starts and the 2 time winner has won it from less than 10 starts..what says the 2 time winner wouldnt have won 10 races by the time it had as many starts???? thats the wrong mentality not mine...a MR is a MERIT Rating..not a WINS rating...president elect in race 7 is a 8 time winner..so why isnt it a group horse?? because it has had 50 starts at mr 74 level and picked up a win every now and then over the last few years..not because it is an above average animal..that is the beauty of the MR system

Im only 34years. Before my time. Champion Stakes I do remember Olympic Duel beating Spanish Galliard on an objection. London News finishing unplaced after it won the July in the Champion Stakes.

the irony for me is it carried 61.5kgs because it was running in a rats and mice fm 76 handicap..if it ran in a fm90 it would have carried 54.5 and nobody would have said the handicappers have killed it etc etc..which doesnt make sense

Can't really agree with you, the question for me was why Phenomenal was rated 9 pounds above Extra Zing - and the race proved why - P did run of a 91 - a gross 91

Is sort of like religion.... you have o take it on faith ..{shakes head meanders off for something cold and bracing}

Maybe not enough plate races, she could have run in a Novice or Grad Plate?In the past was good to watch them race figures go in a D div to C div then a B etc.Who said good horses didn't win with weight. Abbey Boy, Intellectual etc?

Sort of a catch 22 imo - not enough 'good' horses to contest the plate races - so we can't have too many of them - the operators do not want 3 and 4 horse fields - for obvious reasons - so no easy answer imo

That is not to say that Phenomenal should not contest another handicap - yes her MR will probably go up again - but today she has proved that she can win of that rating (which as Justinv has pointed out, is only a nett 79)

On the other hand Frodo... she may not race again... and come out in September and alas alack.... her MR has GONE UP by 13 points to 92 while she was resting...{deep sigh}... {meanders off for an even more bracing cold one}
