What are you talking about? You make MR sound like a punishment instead of a measure. Her rating of 92 stays the same, the weight allowed off for her age changes as she gets older by a pound or two per month.
The MR is the constant, and the scale changes over time, not other way around. Her MR definitely didn't go up, any more than your IQ would go up as you get older even though it's a function of age.
The filly is a 92, and if someone from HK bought her, they would be buying a 92, not a 79. Because she is a 3yo and it's September, it just means she is allowed 6.5Kg's off (13 points) which is equivalent to a 4yo filly at 79. But she is still 13 lbs superior to a 4yo rated 79.
As it happened today, the older Maclaine rated 78, carried 61.0 Kgs and at MR 92 Phenomenal (rated 14 points better) carried 68Kg minus 6.5 Kgs wfa = 61.5 Kgs
And my hat off to the handicapper...92 was a grand call... I couldn't see it.

Clan if you look at Phenomenal's time in her first run then she must have had chance in this race

YAY Jack... you explained it better than I EVER could... there is NO SUCH THING AS GROSS AND NETT merit ratings {doffs beanie in JD's direction}.. there is however an age weight allowance INDEPENDANT OF MERIT RATING.. . . . .
