WHY DO HORSES PARADE IN FRONT OF STARTING STALLS IN ENGLAND
12 years 8 months ago
ALL too often ,we see horses in S.AFRICA..breaking through starting stalls losing their jockeys ,and we the punters taking a deduction on a 20/1 that had no chance and getting screwed ....sometimes taking 2/3 deuctions in a single race...
we dont see it that much in england ..(horses breaking thru the gates)....a seasoned retired trainer tells me its because the horses mind has been schooled in such a way ,that he pardades in front of the stalls and when it goes behind...it knows it has to go in...what do u guys think??/.

There are more horses withdrawn at the start in the uk than in South Africa..
If a horse comes through the gates in the uk it`s an automatic scratching..

where did u get that info.( that more horses are withdrawn in uk than in sa at the start)...but be that as it may...they are scratched because they are declared intractable...going into the stalls and breaking loose is not being intractable...nearly every race meeting we will not get pass without a horse being on the loose...that should raise questions as to why it is happenning....also in the old days i remember there used to be a tape about 200 m along the width of the track being held across...why was this done away with

maybe the problem in sa is the starting stalls are not up to scratch or else why would horses continually be breaking through them.to me this seems the logical explanation.

Winzip, they can't be fastened tight in front in case one of the horses panics and goes frantic for some reason ... the back gate is fastened. You can imagine the horrible situation that would result if a 500kg horse started to lash out and throw itself around in a pen that it couldn't get out of. The front gate acts as a safety valve ... better to have the horse running loose than smash itself up and everyone near it, all of them trapped in tight closed metal pens.

The very simple reason for racehorses in the UK generally being better behaved and schooled than in SA is the difference in the ability and quality of the grooms/exercise riders. Thats a fact, guys.
