Imo the track was badly in need of some rain - but it doesn't sound as if enough rain has fallen to make any difference?
According to the pretty useless TABGOLD, there has been no rain over the last 24 hours and the pen is 20
At least I think we have a 'better' card today; some 'value' pointers:
R3: Overdraft may be better than her last run around the turn, but because of the Marcus factor is too short imo - for places maybe look at Full Quest (has run her best races over this trip and the Verdonese stable is in form) and Lady Laven who ran on nicley last week over the trip and may be coming into form
R4: Merhee looks the right one, and the 1200 could be his best trip - not really a General Sheman fan over the 1200 - but National Key could prove a real danger - may be a few kg's out at the weights, but is distance suited and beat Here Comes Billy (who ran a blinder this past Saturday )
R5: Clearly Keen gets the 4kg's off and has some fair races over this 1200 - place value imo
R7: Legal Account often thereabouts and holds Magic Smoke on their run behind Up Front - place value imo
Enjoy (tu)

Hi all -
1) Vaal Turf Outside - last two meets before scarifying are today and thurs
2) Vaal Turf Inside - been done, first meet back is scheduled for 1 Nov. looking very nice, temps up, so last knitting of grass will have it in top condition by then.
3) Problem with outside course is the holes made after late Autumn rains and subsequent low temperatures which were not allowing regrowth before frost.
4) Last week we saw how bad outside course was - sand filled holes produced no growth and old grass produced spurts of new grass breaking through. So, the holes were " deeper "as such. And the sand filling the holes was kicking back, some horses, "dipping "in races.
5) Today's concern is not about the amount of rain, but about the possibility of uneven, dangerous to horses going. This will be tested at 11h00.
In the meantime....
1)Course manager cut about an inch off the course yesterday. Then they rolled the course. After this am's rain, they are rolling again as we speak, as such.
2) Thursday's meeting will be moved to Turff Inner course, as lots more rain forecast this week.
3) We darent move to Vaal Inner before time, as we will cut it to pieces and never be able to repair this season.
4) We couldnt move to Turff Inner this am, because at the time when we had to make trhe call, redirect floats etc, it was pouring at Turff.
As for the meeting -
1) I will not run my horses if it appears dangerous to me.
2) Yes, Negev is a good sort, but this is my final prep for the R2R Cup, so have her about 90% ready. She is a hot sort, so the run on Emerald Day was simply to teach her about noise and a large crowd, which she would encounter, come Cup day.. She was not "beaten up "on the day and ran on nicely over the 1000m dash. Flying Foo - the job today is to settle her and see if she gets the trip, to qualify for the R2R Cup also.
