How is racing going to survive if they can't even get the basics right...:S

They had best hope for a drought because if 8mm caused hell what will summer storms do? Who is the track manager?

no doubt racing being called off was the correct decision..but the track should never be in a condition where 8mm of rain has done this

Not the rain...here's what LouisG said in an earlier post

3) Problem with outside course is the holes made after late Autumn rains and subsequent low temperatures which were not allowing regrowth before frost.
4) Last week we saw how bad outside course was - sand filled holes produced no growth and old grass produced spurts of new grass breaking through. So, the holes were " deeper "as such. And the sand filling the holes was kicking back, some horses, "dipping "in races.
5) Today's concern is not about the amount of rain, but about the possibility of uneven, dangerous to horses going. This will be tested at 11h00.

Difficult to know if the course manager is to blame - sounds like he was between a rock and a hard place - just more proof that Newmarket should never have been sold. GC should take note.

Also I find it hard to understand that they could not make the decision to move to Turffontein last week already - anyone with eyes could see that the course was in poor condition (actually from the week before already) - we may still not have raced as it rained at Turffontein as well and that inside track also did not look 100% to me on Saturday - who knows what will happen on Thursday ?

WE NEED ANOTHER TRACK :X

I was told that no horses were galloped at 11am, but that is just hearsay, and not official. This decision could have and should have been made by 9am today. The course last Thursday was in shocking condition, and the divots are something to behold, actually. I am glad they decided to abandon for safety's sake, but extremely annoyed that we had to trek all the way out there to have it abandoned after the first race. A waste of time, money and public faith. What a poor decision by whoever made the call to go ahead in the first place!

And yet we are told that "P" saved racing...............what bollocks...........asset stripping has merely delayed what makes the failed result more inevitable!

Is the track supposed to show up so much as it did today?

was there ever a thought of moving the meeting to the vaal sand track or would there have been to many scratchings?i feel for the many owners who lose out and especially those who had feature race pretenders running today especially the ready to run candidates

There were loads of sand dumped every few metres on the sand track - it's obviously also undergoing some sort of maintenance.
