Isn't it wonderful when non racing people remember equine champions made famous by the media, I took that pic Titch posted of Horse Chestnut and saved it as my bbm pp and made the status greatest horse to race in SA and a lot of my non racing contacts sent me msgs about how beautiful he looks and asked if he is still alive! Thx Titch

A great horse no doubt. What a pity they leave our shores just as 3 yr olds and 4 yr olds. Ja well the world's your oyster as they say but it's the ones that stayed behind and raced well into 5 and 6 yolds like Sentinal, Sea Cottage Politician, Model Man and even 10 yr old like Goofy Golden Loom, these are the ones that made S.African racing and made S.Africans go racing.
The big owners should consider putting the interests of the S.A racing public at heart even if it means going the route Pocket Power went. Should have mentioned Pocket in the first paragraph, it's a tribute to his owners and trainer that he didn't go the Jay Peg route.
Must mention JJ the Jet who " flew " abroad and came back to S.A. and won grp races.

dont agree with this..our top horses overeas create a huge buzz..in fact i think he was the first sa racehorse featured in the you magazine and there was a bigger crowd assembled for his farewell appearance at turffontein then you would get if pocket power raided for the summer cup

If he had stayed in the country, I wonder in the July as a 3 year old, if the max of 57 kg's applied then, how much better off he would have been with the other horses in the race? If no maximum how much weight he would have given the field?

It's great seeing our champs race overseas.
I suppose for some people the Currie Cup in the 70's was more fun than watching the current tri-nations ( castle rugby championship)

Seems like his progeny have performed very well overseas then? Anybody knows what his local progeny have done in normal races or GR races? Just for the record.

Still early days to establish sire stats in S.A. as he stands here from 2009 only. Interestingly his progeny Woman of the Year raced for D.Stenger winning about 8 races but no grp wins or places or black type. Shows as bred in U.S.A.,wonder who imported this mare looks like she's at stud now.
