Not possible.... Stronghold is pushing up Daisies pretty hard to become a Champion with only 3 crops on the ground.....yikes man this is like tipping a scratching to win a race....

Dynasty's fee for 2011 covering was R80 000 + VAT (Upfront but with a "Live Foal" guarantee). I think it's the same for the current 2012 covering season

What is the point of having a fair and market related fee but then turn down prospective bookings....heard of a few private owner breeders that were told that book was full... yet more connected and influential sorts got mares in after others were turned away....:S

The breeding world has worked like that since the inception of The Stud Book, Muhti, you know that!!! The owner of the stallion has every right to choose which mares their stuallion covers. Can't see a problem with that. It's the same in the Sport Horse, and pedigree dog breeding worlds. With limited numbers, I think it is good business to choose the best possible mares for your stallion. improves his stud record, which consequently improves his value, and obviously his stud fee and potential earnings.

Thanks Ruby I know how it works but had to post so that others get to know too.... Besides if I were in a similar position managing a decent stallion I'd do the same....besides the 2 mares that one owner wanted to have covered we not at all genetically suitable

What is the definition of the 'best stallion'?
Is it 'best' in terms of the breed:
i.e.
Does he upgrade his mares to produce 'better' offspring than she would have with a 'lessor' stallion (and how does one define 'better' and 'lessor'?)
Does he produce a 'high' percentage of graded winners (or even runners)?
Or is he the best 'commercial' stallion:
Does his progeny make the most money at the sales ?
Does he have a 'highest'' service fee ?
Does his runnners produce the highest earnings (either in total or on average) ?
Or maybe a combination of the above (and others) - and which 'factor/s' contributes which value to a total 'rating' (that is do we rate each 'factor' on a scale of 1-20 and then total the values, or should some factor contribute more 'weight' to the total rating?)
Very difficult to judge imo - a horse's racing performance is measured by his/her MR or TImeform Rating, etc - but stallions do not have these.

"What is the definition of the 'best stallion'?"
Unlike ANY oither business in the world breeding is founded on
best
=
most expensive sold
=
adverts about most expensive sold
=
adverts about sales averages increasing
does not equal
avderts about expensive flops
horses not recouping their purchase price
