FH that comment was about a horse I train and own. Therefore the comment was about me and that is why it touched a nerve or 100 of mine. Say what you want when it is true but dont say it about me when you dont know the truth.

Pirates you are absolutely correct. The horse owning business is becoming lopsided with the very wealthy owners squeezing out the ordinary owners. The moderate horses should not be sent away, there should be races put on to cater for the with lower stakes. The only way I have found the poorer owners will reinvest in a horse is if they are having or have had fun racing their previous horses. Times have changed and today KZN is awash with horses so the operators are all smiles, full fields, lots of trainers and shortage of racing surfaces. What to do in their eyes is frightening when one analyses it. They want to cut up the premier track , sell all the others, and buy a property in the north. I say in a shrinking market conserve your cash and try to find new investors or at least cater for ALL your current investors.

the last time i looked racing was a sport for owners not an investment so as other sports cater for top leagues down to bottom leagues then cater for all horses at different levels...why should racing be different to all other sports?

Pirates I know many owners that have left - each have their own reasons but as racing is about betting and hence money - most have left because of money. I doubt any owner enjoys seeing his horse at the back of the field. I understand your point that all types of horses needing races but where do you draw the line?Maiden Races restriced to MR 30-40's? As a punter i don't like those type of races as the horses are so unpredictable.

Surely with all the horses in training and the large fields its time to build a new race track. There doesn't seem
to be enough racing to accommodate the runners.I often wonder why you only have 1 meeting a day in general.
Is there a lack of jockeys, lack of transport or some other reason.
There is a minimum 3 meetings a day in the UK and up to 6 or 7 at weekends. This gives the moderate horses a
chance to run.
Does The Tote in SA put money back into the game,I think the SA racing authorities need to fund a new track and
stage some more meetings
