She was in the 1 saddling box that is closest to where the music was.....really just a freak accident with her rearing and banging her head.A real pity she never got a run but suppose MDK didn't want to take a chance......

These festivities add flavour to the racemeeting BUT the racehorse should be the main attraction and therefore ALL these festivities should held in an area where there is the least effect on the horses.
Take a leaf out of the overseas meetings - no such fanfare close to the saddling enclosures etc........B)

For your info the distance between the saddling enclosure and where the music was is at least 75 meters

Well I guess sound could never travel that 75m, especially to the ears of a horse whose hearing is fine tuned (much more so than a human) to listen out for prey animals, and potential dangers. In the USA, Kenilworth would have had the living daylights sued right out of them. I really hope this top filly has not been injured seriously.

There was a loud noise either from the kids play area or from the stage where the music was performed and that's when she reared......bottom line is she didn't run and if i owned her I would have been highly annoyed with what transpired.

It wasn't intentional, the point is to ensure that when they have these big race days things are planned properly and play areas, stages etc are placed strategically.......not near the parade ring, saddling area, shoot to the track etc......it's a fine balance between entertaining the crowd and ensuring the horse isn't prejudiced in any way.
