South Africa got the second test against NZ off to a flier, closing on 325 for 4. The man from Durbs recorded his 19th test Century.

Hashim Amla is the epitome of a batsman!!
The comes in either early in the test innings to steady the ship or later on after a good opening partnership to maintain the rhythmn and boy does he do both. He can bat for hours on end. In test match, talent is important,but mental strength is what separates the men from the boys. What makes Amla what he is, is his ability to use his mental strength to his advantage! The man can bat 4 hours using a stump instead of a bat and still succeed as he comes in with only 1 mission(bat as long as I can)!!

And then he opens the ODI innings and is ranked number1 in the world due to his ability to make runs consistantly and at a healthy strike rate. Once again is mental strength kicks in as it was once said that he will never make the SA ODI squad as he is strictly test material!!

His Technique is somewhat questionable, but iv learned(as I have played a lot of cricket myself) that a strong mind can even make a 1 handed batsman great! I was once told by my coach that I was the most talented batsmen he has coached, but the most frustrating one to coach as well. As I lacked concentration and mental strength. I was very lazy and lacked the ability to dig in deep, all was too easy as I had a natural eye4 da ball, solid technique and timing as if I was wearing a watch.lol. But I would trade all three of those acolades for the ability to dig in deep mantally and concentrate 4 hours on end!! Amla is blessed to have what he does have
