Kenilworth Saturday 19th Jan

By david Thiselton
Dennis Drier will attempt to land his fifth feature success of the Cape Sizzling Summer Season on Saturday at Kenilworth where he has a trio of horses in the Grade 2 Graham Beck Memorial Sceptre Stakes for fillies and mares over 1200m.
All three of his runners are four-year-olds, the Australian-bred Rock Of Gibraltar filly Sunshine Rock, the Western Winter filly Sue For Peace and the Var filly Miss October.
Stable jockey Sean Cormack will be on the highly promising Sunshine Rock, whose only defeat in five starts was when having to concede 1kg to the Dean Kannemeyer-trained star in the making, Cape Royal.
In her last start she won the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes over 1100m by a comfortable two lengths, despite jumping from the Kenilworth straight course’s toughest draw of one.
In her previous start she had won in facile fashion over Saturday’s course and distance.
On Saturday she is drawn favourably in eight in the ten horse field.
She looks to be getting better and better and Drier hoped the now 95-merit rated filly’s progression would continue.
However, she will have a tough nut to crack in the form of the Vaughan Marshall-trained All Is Secret, last year’s Equus Two-Year-Old Champion, who drops back to this trip for the first time since beating a strong field, which included Franny, in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson at Scottsville last May.
All Is Secret is drawn one inside of Sunshine Rock in seven and will be ridden by Anton Marcus, so it is sure to be an exciting contest.
Sue For Peace has been very disappointing in Cape Town, finishing fifth in both her starts, both over 1200m.
However, it was discovered that she had been suffering from a lung infection.
“It has cleared up and her work has been flawless,” said Drier.
MJ Byleveld rides her from draw four and if she bounces back to her best she could be involved in the finish, despite being rated 93, seven points lower than All Is Secret.
Miss October has also been disappointing.
She lost many lengths in her first two starts of the Sizzling Summer Season, including in the Grade 2 Southern Cross Stakes over 1000m.
She therefore did well to finish fifth both times and was only 5,75 lengths behind Betting World Cape Flying Championship hopeful Via Africa in the Southern Cross.
Her supporters were therefore hopeful of a big run last time in the Laisserfaire when the work the yard had put in at the stalls paid dividends and she jumped on terms.
However, on this occasion she didn’t find extra in the closing stages and finished a 4,7 length sixth to Sunshine Rock.
The speed with which she made up the lost ground in her previous starts suggests she might be better over 1000m.
However, on the bright side, she has a 2,5kg swing at the weights with Sunshine Rock from the Laisserfaire and jumps from the highest draw.
Brett Crawford said that both of his Grade 2 Graham Beck Memorial Stakes runners over 1200m at Kenilworth on Saturday were well, but admitted that at the weights they had a tough task.
“Reflective Image is in very good form, so should run a good race,” he said. “She is 1,5kg better off with Sunshine Rock (for a two length beating in the Listed Laisserfaire Stakes over 1100), but if you look at the merit ratings she should still battle. However, she will prefer the 1200m trip.”
He continued, “Sweet Aria is very honest, but has a tough task at the weights.”
Reflective Image, a four-year-old Tamburlaine filly, was slow away in her penultimate start in the Grade 2 Southern Cross Stakes over 1000m, so did very well to finish just 3,5 lengths back in third behind Betting World Cape Flying Championship hopeful, Via Africa.
In her next start in the Laisserfaire she stayed on well again.
She will not only be up against Sunshine Rock, but also last year’s Equus two-year-old Champion, the Vaughan Marshall-trained All Is Secret, who returns to this trip for the first time since her win in the Grade 1 Allan Robertson at Scottsville last May, where she beat a top class field, including Franny.
Sweet Aria is very consistent and has two Listed second places to her name.
She proved in her last start when having to switch inward before staying on strongly for second in a MR 90 Fillies and Mares Handicap that she stays the 1200m trip.
She runs in the familiar Beck brown and white colours, so it would be fitting if she won, but off a merit rating of only 85 she has a mountain to climb.

In agreement with Agra regards In Tribute, like the double with Disco Al.
13/10 the place about Adobe Pink(7/1 the win) looks good value, if Hamba Kahle is 9/2 the win and 2.0kgs worse off and one swops the draws around on their last run:

Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

R1: Norvic (25-1) for the Crawford stable, comes back from a rest and gelding, last 2 runs in the wet but will get good ground today, look fro improvement imo. Silver Gilt is interesting runner for Adam Marcus and gets the services of Karl. Selection: 13x2x1x14
R2: If you like Tribute then Danzey Green (33-1) on there run to Code of Honour may be some value. Golconda out of th Gallius formline as well but like Chesapeake and Kisangani drawn inside. This race full of possibilities, Royal Var and Silver Biuff not out of it as either.
Selection: 7x3x1x15
R3: Again how significant is the draw today, plenty of the fancies drawn inside, Bavaria and African Showers (14-1) may have more improvement to come out of the raced horses. Doris Duke must be included and watch the first timers, Don't Tell Daddy related to some who have run well at the c@d.
Selection: 10x1x12x2
R4: Competive F@M handicap, pretty much make a case for all the runners but my vote goes to Chancane 9/2 mainly as she has been consistent of late and take on similar company. Ginoclock ran a good second behind Sunshine Rock while Theme was not disgraced behind a fair sort last time out. Load in the exotics imo.
Selection: 10x1x2x11
R5: ]Night Trip, coming along nicely the one they all gonna have to beat, if there is to be a upset maybe include Noble Star 12-1, i have a gut feeling for this one today. Don't fancy Summer Sanctuary at the weights and for bigger perms maybe include Duke of Beaufort.
Selection: 6x2x1x8
R6: If you take Rivatorio as the line horse then surely Jet Supreme (4-1) is the horse they all have to beat. Is 6kg's better off for a head beating on 7 November. I'm taking a chance and bankering Jet Supreme in a p6.
Selection: 14x12x11x7
R7: Interesting that none of these runners has won over the 2400m. Rush for John the class runner and sure to get the trip but carries some weight here, but this race is tough for me, will have to load or even go field.
Selection: 1x7x8x5
R8: 2 horse race, Sunshine Rock and All is Secret. Last time All is Secret 13/10 ran this distance she beat the classy Franny convincingly. Sunshine Rock still has to prove she can go with the best imo, so will take a chance and banker All is Secret in the p6 and pa. Reflective Image to make up the trifecta.
Selection: 9x2x4x7
R9: Born to be Wild ran a decent 3rd a few days back, this run may be too soon, but Cape Town 6-1 is my fancy to take top honours, 2.5kg better of with Disco Al on there last run. Can't get my head around the vast difference in odd but both should be involved. Roughie could be Pergamon Alter who has been running in lesser company but steps up to a distance where he has won before.
Selection: 4x6x1x5
R10: Look closer at Fly Like an Eagle 5-1, been drawn in the sticks last three runs, the run behind Elegantes she was used up early but kept on strongly up the straight, today gets pole position which should make all the difference.
Selection: 5x11x1x4
R2: If you like Tribute then Danzey Green (33-1) on there run to Code of Honour may be some value. Golconda out of th Gallius formline as well but like Chesapeake and Kisangani drawn inside. This race full of possibilities, Royal Var and Silver Biuff not out of it as either.
