Sudanese race away their woes

With inflation running at 45 percent and food prices rising, many take to horse racing to forget the difficult times.

With inflation running at 45 percent and food prices continuing to rise, many in Sudan are feeling the squeeze of a failing economy.

But as Harriet Martin reports from Khartoum, one of the country's great passions is managing to survive difficult times.

Horses and horse racing are a passion for many Sudanese. And the crowds that come include not just the wealthy owners of the horses but ordinary people, and children from the streets.

Looks like a lot of fun and enjoyment to be had. Pictures far more pleasing than the Ngong and must say the track and grandstand and crowd puts our FLAMINGO lot to way below third world!!
