In all honesty.... We all share to do e degree the truth about that good thing when it passes our ear drum.... How many actually believe what others say on this forum with regards to that.... I wonder if telling the whole world about a 7/1 shot that you have heard via that damn grape vine that is connected to the sane tree that eve got that apple from, that it is going to shit in... I mean really, if you do that the odds will definaty shorten very fast and that do called value is gone... So, how many of us here really do share that good thing.... Ive heard too many people claim massive winnings on racedays but was it pure luck, firm( which i really doubt) or that damn grape vine.... Makes me wonder...:S

I have never doubted anyone's winnings on the forum Russ. I look at it from the point of view of... well done to them if they did and what does it matter to me if they are talking sh1t and didn't? Nothing. So at the end of the day, it has no real consequence to me as an individual. As I have said to others who have questioned this... name them and they will either produce the evidence (though for some people I doubt even that would be good enough to end their suspicions!) or they will disappear quickly enough. Remember also, there are plenty of big egos on here, possibly consciously or possibly sub-consciously, wanting to be the best "selector" or at least seen as the best, they possibly don't actually 100% "enjoy" seeing others doing well. And no Ziets, I am not talking about you! :)

As for good things, I don't like hearing of them most of the time as they invariably lose and in many cases the value has already gone. The only person I know of who is a self-confessed, backs almost totally based on info obtained, is Agra. He has some decent wins and many a loser. For me personally, if he mentions one I like it bolsters confidence which is a good thing... unfortunately, the down side is when he mentions one when I like another in the same race as that can dent confidence! Very very occasionally someone passes me a word and based on my trust in that individual and/or the horse is how I decide if I'll back it and how much. The bottom line is... surely you make your own choices as to who you trust and want to listen to, the rest are just clanners for banter :)

Have a look at the claims on most races. Most days the bookmakers are unlucky if 2 win!:S

I think most clanners pick their own selections through their own methods and don't listen to the grapevine.
Rule 1.Dont punt heavily touted newcomers,if you can't resist keep stakes low.
I'm sure Craig would agree, most improve a lot after their debut,I note heavily backed debutants for their next run.
I must confess I had a ew bet on one in the first yesterday, only because 14/1 was available when it was 3/1 in SA.
ran a solid 4th and I have noted its name

Hi Davetheflower. Many horses improve on their first runs but there are trainers who have their horses pretty much tuned up 1st time out and so often do not make that much improvement. Sometimes their best runs are their 1st or 2nd run.

Going with your own selections is best... Sense if accomplishment when it works out and no sour grapes with others when it doesnt... Studying form is a 70 percent waste of time in my opinion.. It deserves at most an hour cause the longer you do it the more often you change thise earlier selections and also when you look at the result of the race you majority of the time think how da fcuk did that perd win... The formbook has so much info and yet so little! Nevertheless i dont think ill ever stop following this game! Too too much of enjoyment i get out. I think now however, i will be buying three dice and throwing them to get my banker. the unfortunate thing i will never get horses 1 & 2 (will be workin round that one)....

Gregbucks and Agra made mention of Matilda's Love @ the Vaal yesterday, I followed it and came home 3/1 richer

I 'play" horses everyday , and now that Ziets not posting any more I study the card myself and do own selections. About 7 months ago a owner gave me a tip "his horse can not loose that race". I BET a lot of money on that horse that came stone last and lost a hell of a lot of money, and from that day I am back to "playing" horses that I select.

90% of the time I do my own selections, but when I see a horse that is fancied and others make strong comments about, it is worth a nibble...

Some "tips" pay off and other times it does not...

If we could select the winner in each race...

1) most of us wouldn't have day jobs
2) retired due to the multi million dollar contract signed, for your "system"

Unfortunately I am neither, so it is nice to hear a "whisper" on a fancy that you like, which gives you that little bit more confidence to drop an extra R10 on it... and hope for the best...
