Quality of horses in Kimberly.
12 years 3 months agoI watched this race. The last 4 horses were not just beaten they were beaten 1200 meters before the finish. If i was the owner of those 4 horses they are truly wasting their time. If the trainers did not go back to the owner and say these horses should be retired they are taking the owners money in cold blood.

The pace in this race was disgraceful, and sometimes I wish the younger, more inexperienced jockey's would get reprimanded in some way for this poor judgement. They were setting the pace as is if for a mile. Way too fast. The true stayers tried to keep up, but ended up fading badly early. And the front runners hit a brick wall, because you cannot race at that pace over 2200m, in the middle of the midday desert heat. Beijing was 20 lengths back around the turn, very comfortable. Juglall sensed the poor judgement of those around him and just sat patiently. He literally clicked his tongue at Beijing and let the reins slip thru his fingers. Everything around him just fell away. He hardly even asked the horse for a run. We won by half the straight, and more than a whole second faster than the 2nd horse. Some of the jocks need to be held accountable for the poor pace judgements that they make. It causes unnecessary upsets. So while there aren't exactly world beaters down in Kimberley, poor pace can make even great horses look terrible.
