Gauteng Guineas

LOVE STRUCK is the runner weighted to win the Grade 2 Betting World Gauteng
Guineas over 1600m at Turffontein on Saturday 2 March.
The Paul Lafferty-trained Kahal gelding captured the Listed Politician
Stakes at Kenilworth last month with Anton Marcus in the irons and the pair
will be reunited in this R1-million race which is the first leg of the
SASCOC Triple Crown.
All the horses carry 58kg but had the race been a handicap Love Struck
would have had to give weight all round. He is well drawn at No 5.
Trainers Mike de Kock and Geoff Woodruff saddle three runners apiece and
the best of the De Kock trio could be Alexandra Palace. Anthony Delpech
rides from draw No 6. His other two are Emerald Approach and reserve runner
Cannon.
Woodruff sends out Killua Castle, Sabadell and talented Tellina, who could
be the lurker in the field.
De Kock will fancy his chances in the R500,000 Wilgebosdrift Gauteng
Fillies Guineas in which he saddles unbeaten British-bred import
Espumanti. She is unbeaten in three starts and carries 2kg less than the
others as she gets a northern hemisphere allowance.
She is beautifully drawn at No 2 and has Delpech in the irons. The
top-rated fillies are Cherry On The Top and King’s Temptress.
The Fillies Guineas is the first leg of the Wilgebosdrift Triple Tiara.
