too much debt, failed business, best friend murdered,

certainly not for betting opportunities.......although if betfair ever take over the states then that is a move worth making.

Rob when you were using Betfair here when it was legal were you making a living wage from it?
Not a loaded question as I also enjoyed it but probably due to lack of discipline I battled.

no wounds it is what it is......

I love betfair. Made money on it and lost money on it. I advocate for it all the time BUT i have not been on my account for well over 8 months.

The positives of betfair are far outweighed by the negatives (yes i still promote it).

I am too clever for betfair, thats why i lose. Let me explain. Betfair offer so many ways of betting that one ends up being a jack of all trades master of none.

Until betfair came along NEVER did i consider backing a horse at 20/1 and laying it back in running. Some people say well thats a good thing, you know back it at 20/1 lay it back @ 2/1 tie in your profit and all is well......the problem is laying it back means you are now not a backer of 20/1 shots but a back to lay player. So you should be studying horses that you can back at a higher price than you will lay them at........but i did not. I looked for winners and thought i was being clever "taking " insurance in case it got beat . What i was really doing was sometimes backing a 20/1 shot at 14/1 (when it won) and most times backing a 20/1 shot and it not winning nor me laying it back. So the nett was instead of having to find a winner in 20 i had to find a winnner in 14.

i hope that makes sense.

Betfair is GREAT, its awesome BUT you cannot exploit all its features because you will lose.....

Dave/Easy I had been a bookmaker and a punter and an insurance underwriter(working with probabilities and I thought Betfair would be a piece of cake).............I was very wrong ,but fortunately I put my toe in the water slowly and went through a whole new learning curve.......it took more than 2 years for me to make consistent profit (which I had done for the 7 months before Betfair pulling the plug) IF I had continued for another 5 months,at the same rate of return I would then have upped the bank/stake to provide a "livable" figure.
Let there be no doubt though ,it takes a very disciplined model, and it is certainly no "piece of cake"

If you are determined to open an account with an offshore bookie you have to get by your own bank when the transaction comes in.

Here is how to do it:

Paypal is the best way of purchasing items on E bay etc and is also acceptable to most overseas bookies.

Open a Paypal account with your local Amex or whatever you use. Use this to pay the bookie. Your card is then hit by Paypal. If you are fortunate enough to withdraw the payment is back to Paypal.

Just a thought.

I don't think Paypal allow deposits into gambling sites.

(tu) EXACTLY... and as Rob Faux stated DISCIPLINE is the #1 Rule .. & the 2nd & the 3rd... if I just play according to my place plan I would comfortably make 200% + profit a month... ABSOLUTELY comfortably... & that is why I am planning to retire in less than 6 months and leave an extremely well paid job in Singapore... time for a scenery change... I would MUCH rather not bet on befair & be in SA than bet on betfair & sit in the UK >:D< After being away from SA for approx 14 years now only being back for XMas holidays most years I have seen pretty much every place in the world but NOTHING comes close to SA in so many ways... even with murder, shooting your girlfriend, Malema, still the best country in the world (tu)

It was here, it was never legal. One big player who brought back funds found ALL his bank accounts (different banks) linked to ID number frozen by reserve bank. Just needed to be big enough to appear on the radar. I never followed up what happened after, could find out if anyone cares.

Can you drive 160km/h in a 120 zone? Yes. Is it legal? No.
Can you get bust IF you are caught? Is ignorance of the law an excuse to mitigate?

There are always ways around, but now matter how you slice or dice, it's explicitly prohibited as a citizen of the country. Many things are irrespective of how feel about it. Once that was explicitly pointed out to Betfair, they had to stop or risk never to get a licence should conditions ever to change.
