great invention in this day and age when we lose meetings and billions of rand to bad weather but we have had this discussion before and the knowitalls say nothing can be done to cover the tracks and therefore not lose meetings ...

Cheltenham had 630 covers laid by 60 staff using 10,000 pegs and, after all, it was The Festival. I doubt any other course went to such measures to save their meeting yesterday.

A couple of years back, I suggested some kind of covering to prevent abandonments, andI was called a loony............lol
This effort is to save 1 festival, albeit famous....................What I was talking about is a more portable/permanent type solution for our limited no. of tracks, all year round!

With respect Tipster, why is it that everybody in the industry is obsessed with the "why we can't " syndrome.

Easy would the covers be able to save a meeting from rain as opposed to frost, as I believe the latter is what they protect against?

If it could protect against rain as opposed to frost I am sure it would be considered.

not against rain , water always gets in and then you would have "patches" that were soaked due to concentration of water running towards it

Are you sure it couldn't be designed to suit eg.to create a run off ,wide of the racing surface?
