Methods for predicting horse racing results

If you play the stock exchange then you might know of the following methods..
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stock_market_prediction
Basically fundamental analysis studies the underlying companies health via financial statements etc etc..... this would equate to studying form in horse racing.
Technical analysis does not care about company fundamentals but just looks for trend. Has anyone tried to apply technical analysis to horse racing... suppose mainly by using betting odds?
For example by not betting on open races, or betting on two horse races, or backing favourites etc etc

@avanza:
I had published a book based on such methodology; 'Acu-Punter' way back in the early 80's..
I am revising it and having it re-typed in MSWord for digital distribution (right now, I have the hard copy in PDF which is too large for transmission). Once it's done, it will be available for free downloading to clanners and the general public / punters.
Yes, there are numerous variables and non-variable factors and elements that can be analysed with a degree of success!

The key to stock market wealth is concentration and NOT diversification ...
Forget the crap financial advisors tell you about diversifying, they just want your money. I've only realised this now in my 50's :X

?......inside info in both cases......financials are like form.....they can be manipulated .....ENRON a classic example.....I have made 2 coups on investments on the stock exchange one was blind luck and the 2nd a little tip......I stick to the ponies .....because to get an inside look into the way a majority of businesses are run is a lot more scary.....:S

form is the technical bit..if u use betting odds to predict future results its a short trip to the poor house..key in horse betting like in trading is manging ur risk..which most punters dont do
