Been out to dinner so a belated well done to Hollywood and all other bookies that refunded. But the BIGGEST well done must go to this site. Nothing would have come of this(gestures of goodwill from bookies as it was not their fault), if it was not for Africanbettingclan!

The relevent rule 61.5.10.1 reads as follows:Should the starter consider that through any faulty action of the starting gates or from any other cause ,a fair start has not been effected, the starter may declare a "non start"(false start).Should the starter not declare a false start ,the Stipendiary board may, after a hearing, declare any horse which was impered at the start by a front gate not opening a non -runner ,provided that a horse which is ultimately declared first, second ,third or fourth in a race by the judge, shall not be declared a non -runner.
This seems to be the NHA rule that was looked at and adhered to?????

Because just like Gold Circle don't care about the punters they don't care about the owners. They will not refund the punters or the owners who never got a run and its not just Gold Circle its racing SA they think they don't need punters and small to medium owners they only care about the big owners so we fighting a losing battle

My 2c worth...
I do agree that the starter was at fault.... However what about the jockey! Surely, as a professional with many years experience, he should know the rules regarding the starting stalls and false starts. Every single person in F1 knows the pit lane rules. Surely every jockey in this country is coached in starting stall issues! If not, why not!
The real losers yesterday were those who were running in the exotics when the meeting was cancelled. My R300 PA returned R105. Am sure there are many who suffered similar fates with their P6 and J/P.
Well done to the bookies who realised some good PR outweighs a few $$$.

And every other professional sportsman! you play to the whistle / siren, once that goes then you stop or else you will get hit with a cheap shot, as Craig Eudey said, if you were offside, got the ball scored a try / goal, would you not claim it? if it was not called... somethings are fine to get away with human error, but the starting stall not opening on terms is blatant, to blame the jock is a joke and the person who thought of this is really narrow minded
