Solotrama...I hear you but with a no coupling rule, the punter who averages R100 for say, a 10% fractional stake, will not be able to achieve this possible return because he would need to have a bigger outlay to compensate for the new rule.I'm not sure if a drop from a possible 10% return to a possible 3% return will be quite as attractive an investment.Making the bet cheaper would possibly retain the punter.
I invested on average R40 on the Jackpot before the rule change but now I have an outlay of about R100 but it is still a worthy investment because it is only 4 legs and the larger payout ensures that I get a good return.
My initial point though is that Pick 6 will become a bet for the punter with deeper pockets...

For the same reason couplings were introduced in the first place............the "wrong" one winning leads to mistrust and the belief that the results are being manipulated to the financial benefit of those in control of multiple entries/runners.
This will be particularly true when there are the inevitable mega payouts!
Big payouts are great for racing until the masses realise they aren't getting any of it!!!

i have taken p6's in the current structure for as little as 2% at times .
It all depends on the "feel" one gets for each particular card !
i reckon the 3% return on the no couplings structure may be equivalent to the 10% currently . Its hard to gauge !

I'm struggling most days to put an afforfable P6 together for 1%, and that's with the couplings in place - sometimes I do include a coupling if I go wide in a leg (if one goes from 9 to 10 runners, the cost difference is not that astromical, but you would double up should one of the coupling arrives); so if one need to include all / most couplings the cost would probably be too high (for me) most times - even at 1% (I suppose one could go take a bet for less than 1%, but really :S). So that's where a smaller unit (50c ?) would help in my case.
I also agree with Perpetual that the Pick 3 and All to Comes are a waste and I would not mind if these bets were cancelled.
Anyway, to each his own :

Frodo, the bigger punter often does not see it the way that the smaller punter does...1% of a Pick 6 payout is often not worth the time and effort and most punters would want a bigger return if it was more affordable. Punting can be great fun to a pensioner or a small punter and of course everone plays to win as much as possible with an outlay that they can afford.

Perpetual, strangely my experience is that the bigger &/or more frequent punter is less greedy than the smaller punter and recognises the value of a positive return.........nobody ever went broke showing a profit!!!!

To the boys in the UK, How many of you do the SCOOP 6 on Saturdays?
6 Races are selected, normally tough ones, and at 1 pound a line with no percentages or couplings being allowed it is almost impossible to catch. The payouts are normally massive with carryovers a strong possibility. Maybe big carryovers lead to bigger pools and BIGGER TAKEOUTS.
Thoughts?
