Mauritius Saturday

1st race :
The Balladeer should have run last week but was scratched due to an injury. He has recovered fully and may score in the opening race with Preetam Daby on board. Please To Progress put a decent performance at his first outing and will surely have his say over this 1650m race. Made of Money is an old campaigner but looks to be an interesting outsider. Wild N Free will claim 4kg with apprentice Niven Marday on board and isn’t out of the frame.
2nd race:
Ryder Cup is the big favourite in this race. On his debut, he was only beaten by Commodore Pete. This time round, he has the perfect draw and the path should be clear for him to collect the spoils. Mobschief has a good chance from stall 2 as he has won over 1365 metres before. Ball Park has finished 2nd in both races over the same distance and is an interesting outsider. Addition has failed to finish in the placings in his last 5 runs, but if he can have a smooth lead, he can easily finish in the placings.
3rd race:
Democratic Man has a strong chance of getting back into the winners enclosure again. He is a strong performer over the 1000 metres and has the advantage of stall 1. Golden Sheik has also won over this trip, but he may find his chances difficult after being drawn on the outside. Mighty Mars has benefited from his first start and is given to take an active part in the closing stages. Chieftan must not be ruled out either. He has an excellent South African form and has been shaped to score right at his first outing.
4th race:
After 2 brilliant wins this season, Kite Surfer looks in great form and is favourite to complete his hat-trick. His trainer has decided to remove the blinkers to enable him relax better over this longer trip. Isipho should be his main rival. He has scored on his first outing and looks in very good condition. Hills of Rome should also be thereabouts, having won over this distance and finished a strong 2nd on his last run. Hugo The Boss had a strong return in his last run. He has worked very well during the week and should be a contender.
5th race:
After coming runner-up in his first 2 races, Captain Vedici is in a strong position to win his first race in Mauritius. He has been fitted with the blinkers and will have a tongue strap. He has worked beautifully and his connections believe that it’s high time for him to open his account. C Major must have his say as he has dropped down a division and is in good condition. Arabian Empire has started solidly this season and should be a popular choice with Gaetan Faucon on board. Bayard hasn’t performed to expectations in his two first races this season and is difficult to follow.
6th race:
The main race of the day will be run over 1500 metres. It looks to be a very competitive race. In the Duchess of York Cup, Tales of Bravery was the pre-race favourite, but he didn’t kick as expected in the final straight. He has benefited from this first outing and even though he has drawn wide, his trainer, Ricky Maingard believes in his chances.
Solo Traveller won the Duchess of York Cup and is in tip-top condition. He is given to make it two in a row by his connections as he has been outstanding in his gallops.
Top Seller was only beaten at the post in the Duchess of York Cup race and like Solo Traveller, he is in top form and is a genuine contender.
The dark horses are Polar Bound and Tandagree. The former has put up an excellent performance in The Duchess and it won’t be a surprise if he builds up on that race with Mark Neisius on board.
Tandragee has always made the frame since running in Mauritius. Winner of the Gold Cup, he is a gutsy horse and racegoers shouldn’t write him off. Hot Rocket looks to be in good shape and could compete for minor placings.
7th race:
Liquid Motion is the hot favourite to make it 3 wins in a row. He is in perfect condition and has a favourable draw. Anything else than a win, will be seen as an upset. Mining Prospect could have his say but he needs to lead. Reehaze Hoolash has been booked to ride him and he will have to be at his best to score. Ridge Too Far has won only one race since running here. He is in good shape and shouldn’t be written off. Abington has a strong chance of taking the honours after finishing second to Solar Symbol. He is one to watch very closely.
8th race:
Winner of his last race, How Many To Won could well make it again from start to finish. In perfect condition and with a good draw, he should be a hard nut to crack. Carson City will definitely be thereabouts as he was only beaten at the post by Ghost Dog in his last run. Tamworth should be given another chance. He could have done better on his last run and has been preferred by Johnny Geroudis. King’s Guard may find it difficult to win, but his chances to finish in the top four are solid.
9th race:
With 3 wins in his last 5 runs, Liam could make it four. However, he must have a close eye on Kruger Rand. The latter ran an awful race at his last outing but he had some excuses. He must be given another chance and be judged on his first outing where he finished second to stable companion Liquid Motion, still unbeaten in Mauritius. Shahruhk shouldn’t be far away but will have to overcome his outside draw. If he breaks well, he will be in with a strong chance. Cheerful News should not be ruled out, having won over this distance at his last run, whilst Southern Heights and Traianius are both capable of finishing in the minor placings.
