BANKABLE – GONE TOO SOON
The ill-fated Bankable was a tremendous racehorse, with a stellar pedigree to match. The son of Medicean, who stood at Summerhill prior to his untimely death, has 15 weanlings on offer at the Novisara Dispersal Sale.
They present buyers with the rare opportunity to buy the offspring of a well bred, top-class Mr Prospector line horse.
By world leading sire Medicean (who was represented by three individual Gr1 winners in 2012), Bankable won over R20 000 000 during his racing record.
He won from 1200m to 1800m, and won eight times, including the Gr2 Al Fahdi Fort, and Gr3 Mahab Al Shimaal. In total, Bankable won or placed in 12 stakes races.
He raced against some of the best horses of his generation, and conquered the likes of Archipenko (QE II Cup), Courageous Cat (2nd Breeders Cup Mile), Debussy (Arlington Million), Gayego (Arkansas Derby), Good Ba Ba (Champion), Kip Deville (Breeders Cup Mile), Take The Points (Secretariat Stakes), The Usual Q.T. (Hollywood Derby) and Vodka (Horse of the Year).
Bankable was placed in two of the world’s greatest races – he was second in the Gr1 Dubai Duty Free and third in the Gr1 Singapore Airlines International Cup.
His sire Medicean is a son of Machavellian – sire of one of SA’s top sires, Kahal. Medicean has sired 32 stakes winners – of which nine are Gr1 winners! His top horses include multiple Gr1 winner Dutch Art, himself now a leading young sire.
Like successful sires Sakhee and Henrythenavigator, Bankable is out of a mare by the legendary stallion Sadler’s Wells.
His dam, Dance to the Top, was a smart racemare, who was second in the G1 Fillies Mile. She is also the dam of G3 winner Cheshire – and this is the family of champion sire Honeyway. The latter’s son Great Nephew sired Epsom Derby winners Grundy and Shergar.
