Delpech returns to SA
TOP South African rider Anthony Delpech (39) is on his way back home after spending the last five years riding with distinction in Hong Kong. He is immediately available to take rides. Delpech told freeracer: "I have had enough of Hong Kong, I've had a great time here, I was very happy and succfessful, but my big horse Vengeance of Rain has retired and I've had six suspensions this season, the latest a 9-day banning. I'm looking forward to coming home and I have no immediate plans to ride elsewhere.'' Delpech has won most of SA's major races, including two Durban Julys on Classic Flag and Greys Inn respectively. He holds the South African record for number of wins in one season, set in 1998/9 when he booted home an astonishing 335 winners.

In the hierachy of things, imo (old school ?) its as follows :
The owner is the customer and the trainer should treat him/her accordingly with the respect his/her patronage deserves (if paid up of course).
The jockey relies on the trainer, who acts as the owners' agent, so he (the jockey) should treat the trainer accordingly with respect.
The racing operator relies on the punters for their patronage and the owners for their intellectual property (their horses) and should treat them accordingly with respect that their patronage deserves (we know the racing operator does not).
The Racing Association represents owners and members and the well-being of racing should be their piority when dealing with the racing operator, even if it involves taking a stand for their constituents (we know they dont for various reasons).
In SA we have this culture, that when it comes to service and respect, the customer is sold way short and because it has become the norm the customer has been indoctrinated to saying nothing and apathy erodes these basic values.

Try telling that to some vertically challenged athletes Cuckoo - you may never have another win!! I know exactly what you mean but very difficult to get that message back when the guys are driving cars worth more than your horse and they are only 22
