Can we please now stick to what abc stands for " the voice of the punter" and keep this religious talks off abc for good because what counts for one must count for all? Would have to agree and should stick to sports related topics... Well I am from now on atleast... only going to comment on the sporting posts... i.e. Rugby / cricket / soccer / racing... any religious talk is a taboo thing...

After all, we here to get racing info. Yet, as much as I support that call, I have not been amongst the first of commenters to deride other religions / political points of view or initiate such topics always!

From what I noted, despite being punters, we have such a wide spectrum of followers; one cannot wish them away, especially their beliefs, feelings and convictions.

That opened up interest and common ground for some of us to interact more substantially and with respect; we are not islands. We share experiences, frustrations and highs; we pat one another on winning and curse together when we lose!

Now, within this scenario, I have had a lousy experience in a partnership. I could slide into a perception that the entire thing was racist.... and propagate it and look upon the industry with contempt and anger as being dominated by racists, etc! In fact, I was asked to take up an issue (which I wisely refrained from) about a leading jockey who allegedly called a trainer a 'kaffirboetjie'; it left me wondering 'If you are so anti-racist and liberal, why don't you take it up yourself?' I heard comments about blacks 'who will eat the bloody horse!', etc. Forget about Malema and Zuma swipes!

On the other hand, I have met with and contacted some wonderful people, regardless of colour or religious orientation.

OK BP.... let's all call it a day! You enjoy your tipping glory and making the money, for me it's just a past-time / hobby; I will resign into my little hell-hole in common with Muslim bashing!

As a South African, this is exactly the kind of discussions needed.

Agreed that ABC, was intended for to be a horse racing site.

However, this site has evolved into something more than that, and to now limit it to horse racing would be an injustice.

To Dave & Hibs, perhaps another Forum called "Social views, beliefs and interpretations", where posters can voice their views, whether it be optionated or not, subjective or objective, a forum where views can be challenged, and something can be shared and learnt, about the things that impact on our lives and the future.
