Everyone can tell you a bullshit story how he manage his bankroll just punting to win 6% or double up or structure or exotics but we all will fuck it up because NOBODY have the discipline to stick to his plan, if somebody tell you he does, he bullshit you
A lot of punters would be millionaires out of punting horses but only 1 in a 1000 OR MORE have the discipline to stick it out
There is no "millionaire from punting" here on ABC or who I met in my entire life , only ones is the lucky small punter that hit a EXOTIC lotto payout with his 5 minute pickings before the pick 6 closes and he will probably lose all that in the long run

I think the operative word is GREEDY which I can understand. I have seen many types of stratergies used and tried some myself to no avail and yes DISCIPLINE plays a huge part whether you are a big or small Punter. You also at least need to be honest with yourself as well, I keep a spreadsheet, and always have, of each Bet type I taken at each Race Course so as to keep tabs on my punting on Horse Racing. This to assist with the Discipline angle as one's losses accumalate quicker than you realise.
The reality is that the Tote has a take out and I have not seen a poor Bookmaker and this all comes from the Punters so there has to be losers as well. (I suppose the same for Casinos).
I do not understand the term value because to me any winning bet is value no matter what the price is. To me it is rather ROI as a percentage of your outlay.
So basically study the Card and pick your fancies in 2 or 3 races and punt only those and not every Race. But that is not fun so I tend to outlay more on those 2 or 3 and then put much smaller amounts on the other races.
Also remember that with all the variables do not RISK more than you can AFFORD to lose and never chase your losses.
Apologies for the long winded reply but people have written books on this subject.
Prosperous and Happy punting.
