RHINO REVOLUTION

i don't know if anyone caught the insert on the Rhino Revolution project, on the late night broadcast of "Winner's Circle", on Tellytrack, tonight, which showed how retired racehorses are being used to patrol a game conservancy in the Hoedspruit area, to thwart rhino poachers, but I must just draw your attention to the fact that the incorrect website address was posted at the end.

The address, shoud you wish to make a contribution, of any kind, be it a horse, equipment or a cash donation, is www.rhinorevolution.com .

It represents a great way of finding a useful and purposeful retirement for any racehorse, and the Blue Canyon Conservancy, headed up by Trevor Jordan, is looking for more horses, with only five available for their team of 12 rangers, at the moment. They are wanting to establish satellite pickets, away from the main guard post, to be able to effectively patrol the 81 kilometres of boundary fences.

They are also looking for equipment of all kinds, from riding gear (chaps, hard hats, boots etc) to walkie talkies, not to mention cash donations.

The horses they have, donated by Zimbabwe's Champion trainer, Lisa Harris (with one from Paul Matchett), are all in superb condition, and you can rest assusred, as an owner, that your retired horse will be very well looked after and enjoy a great retirement from the racecourse. The Conservancy will be only too delighted for you to come and visit the horse, from time to time and see how it is doing in its new role as a crime fighter. Obviously, any monthly contribution you can make towards its further keep will also be welcomed.

The KZN Parks Board has long been using cross breeds in their battle to restore the rhino population to maximum strength, but this is the first time that thoroughbreds have been used, and they have adapted superbly well. They spooked at the giraffes, at first, but now not even the presence of lions seems to faze them.

Broadcast times for the programme today, Friday 14th June, on Supersport 6 (Channel 206) are 05h30, 11h00 and 13h00. Otherwise you can catch repeats of "Winner's Circle" on Tellytrack, and the insert will be repeated during evening racing hours during the course of next week.

He was due to arrive any day now. It's a beautiful place with great stables and the horses are superbly well cared for. Thanks for posting the correct link, Scotia.

Don't take my first comment the wrong way.. there are so many Rhino initiatives out there I was becoming a little jaded and uninterested.
Doesn't mean I don't care..
Then I saw the Rhino Rev insert -finally something I can get to grips with - well done Aidan
Really nice idea that makes sense and one can see where the resources are going to.
Well done - beats putting a horn on my car or a sticker - does not help.
I'll definitely get involved, hope more of you guys do to.

Thanks for the feedback. Nice to know it grabbed your attention. I agree, there are far too many Save the Rhino initiatives, with some very nebulous objectives, but this is one that is really working. If other conservancies go the same route the country can win the war against poachers.

Sorry guys but i have had enough of this crap, screw the rhinos. Children are starving to death and people with too much money and time wants to worry about rhinos. Please don't feel shy to call me what you want but i am just speaking the truth.

That's a bit short sighted Viper as the very thing you couldn't care a shit about (the Rhino) provides many communities with jobs and in turn feeds these children.

Perhaps it does create some jobs but how much money is been wasted on the rhinos. Use it for job creation in other fields that can sustain more families.

Viper, the whole point of the initiative is to raise money to save the rhino. That is, to create jobs so that there are people can protect them, so that more people can pay to see them. Did you watch the insert on Winning Ways?
What do term "money" ... and "wasted" ... on rhinos?
Perhaps you can clarify that? Sustain more families than can't sustain themselves in the first place?
Or are you from the school that has kids so that they can sustain you when you get older?
