Enough with counting wins. At some point you have to see that winning 3 bottom rung races isn't the same as running 2nd in the guineas and the derby.

Also, the panel who select the final 4 places (after all, the top 15 or 16 is obvious to everybody) basically have to choose about 4 spots from 6 or 7 marginal cases. This time it was probably only the final 2 places with 4 possibles. At that point it's an opinion whether a 3rd in a Grd1 is better than a 2nd in a Grd2.

If a horse who has run a good 2nd decides to make his next run in the July vs something else that decides to run again and runs nowhere...then they've made their gamble. If Smanjemanje hadn't run since his brilliant 2nd in the July, he would have made this field...but he did run 7 nowheres in a row. Gothic ran 2nd in the derby and decided it was probably enough. De kock and Ferraris's top 3yo's fell by the way and Gothic is still standing.

If Woodruff and De Kock got in, we would say they always get in before the likes of Naidoo and Freedman. It's a no win for the panel. As much as I respect De Kock I'm not sure that Rock Cocktail should have got in in front of those other two. But it is a close call and you can't make a BIG case for any of them. None of the last 2 to get in, and the two that didn't, looked a certainty to get in or not get in.

It's not a great field but I dont think there are any "massive runners" sitting on the reserve bench who "should have got in".

The Classic and Derby are always run on different conditions to the DN...always soft...they cannot be allowed to use descretion...the process must be made transparent and clear rules set...this is gonna turn people away from the game.

Disagree with de Kock: Rock Cocktail is not good enough. But then I also disagree withsome other entries.

And racing is about winning not really abt 3rd's and 4th's and who beat whom? Tellina should have got in and is absolutely criminal he did not, ugh.

MDK is the top trainer in the country for many years now and even from a very young age..he is a very intelligent man..when he makes a statement like this people should listen and learn!!!

There are winners and loser as far as entries are concerned every year. I remember Paul Lafferty being bleak about the exclusion of Pinero (i think) a few years ago and also had a gripe but no one really gave a rats. MDK has something to say this year and its the end of the world. As they like to say to the punters "this game is not for cry babies, there is another opportunity to race around the corner.

nominate like they do for any feature race in any first world racing country not the way we do it where it fcuks owners trainers and most importantly punters around....its that plain and simple...

How the f#ck does punta arenas get in after running fouth to astro news which is a group 3 race when horses like master plan who has group 1 form not get in,then a horse like run for it who was much lower on the log gets in after winning a pinnicle plate,then u have a horse like wild one qualifing which was shocking to say to say the least. I wonder if lehaaf was entered would he qualify since he beat wild one in feb,anyway this field has quite a few horse just making up the numbers. Gold circle should add a new rule just to make the final field a stronger 1- no horses under a merit rating of 100 are allowed then u won't get shit and u will have a much stronger race.

Its a handicap,maybe they should just make it a proper group 1 race with all horses carrying 60kg?

Then Horses like Igugu will never have won

How many other handicap races(albeit compressed ) are not based on the official ability rating.

Just one other point ,if we are going to allow a one time winner because of the rating you have to fail Wagner for NO runs rated above 100 regardless of what the race is called-we either use ratings or wins -not a mix and match depending on what suits surely!
