Bafana thrown SWC lifeline
Cape Town - FIFA has confirmed that the Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) has been sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player in their 2014 Soccer World Cup qualifier against Botswana.
The match, which was played on June 8 this year, has been declared forfeited and awarded 3-0 in favour of Botswana, giving Bafana Bafana renewed hope of qualifying for next year’s tournament to be held in Brazil.
The FIFA Disciplinary Committee considered the EFF liable for having breached article 55, paragraph 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and article 8 of the 2014 FIFA World Cup regulations.
The sanction relates to the Ethiopian player, Minyahile Teshome Beyene, failing to serve the automatic one-match suspension imposed on him following two cautions received in two different matches.
Ethiopia are now two points ahead of Bafana, who hold a superior goal difference (+4 v +2).
Bafana's final qualifier will be against Botswana - at home - on September 7, while Ethiopia will face CAR at a venue to be determined, on the same day.

Tiebreakers
For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages using a league format, the method used for separating teams level on points is the same for all Confederations, as decided by FIFA itself.[6] If teams are even on points at the end of group play, the tied teams will be ranked by:
goal difference in all group matches
greater number of goals scored in all group matches
greater number of points obtained in matches between the tied teams
goal difference in matches between the tied teams
greater number of goals scored in matches between the tied teams
greater number of away goals scored in matches between the tied teams if only two teams are tied
If teams are still equal then a single play-off at a neutral venue will be played. If scores are level after 90 minutes in the play-off, then two 15-minutes periods of extra time and (if required) a penalty shoot-out would determine the winner.
For FIFA World Cup qualifying stages using a home-and-away knockout format, the team that has the higher aggregate score over the two legs progresses to the next round. In the event that aggregate scores finish level, the away goals rule is applied, i.e. the team that scored more goals away from home over the two legs progresses. If away goals are also equal, then thirty minutes of extra time are played, divided into two fifteen-minutes halves. The away goals rule is again applied

Brasil 2014 is in doubt as the public disturbances will carry on during the world cup where many people could be injured or even worse.

Cool, they can do what they always do for these major events when threatened at a late stage... Give it to South Africa (tu) (

they will make plenty now as they have the experience plus you can tell sepp blatter to piss off as FIFA would be reliant on SA to host it.

If Bafana come through the group stages they will then qualify for the playoffs together the other 9 teams that have won their groups. Bafana will not be seeded which will result in them paying one of the top 5 ranked qualifiers on a home and away basis...the group stages are just qualifiers for playoffs.

Sorry but i disagree, people in South Africa are growing tired of poor service delivery, do you think they are going to put up with the Country wasting money hosting another world cup, i don't think so and lets not forget that the riots in Brazil are partly in protest of that country holding the World cup and not putting the basic needs of people first.
