Are you happy with the quality of South African tv picture, compared to UK-France-USA.
If not, can something be done about it ?

To be honest I consider UK superior. I mean comparing the picture only, not the tv programs as such.

I know It depends on equipment available but also on the geometry of each and every track (there being some that are more difficult to manage than others).

are you talking about racing pictures? if so i probably agree.. The camera angles are terrible, especially at Greyville and Scottsville and both PE tracks

In the UK the bookie shops pay fortunes for the pictures and the quality comes from that..

The American pictures are terrible quality from what i remember and the French although good quality pictures the racing is pants and the angles are poor

It depends on your tv set also.
One night they had Wolverhampton and I said "hey are these guys having a power cut there". Then I went to the next room where the tv was better and everything became bright.
American tv is very good. They have the numbers of the leading four and fractions too.
Good picture is a must as is the decor surrounding the pitch. Ours is like war in the desert.

Plenty of comment against SA in GR now.
They are neanderthal types those who write against SA but it boils down to the quality of the picture imho.

I always enjoyed the previews from Greyville, but lately not as good as in the past....The Cape tends to show the rear of the horses going to post...Canter pasts overseas....not worth watching IMO...though their race coverage is better....

Kaja, AMEN !

I thought that I stood alone on this one. My take is specifically on the last 400/200 meters - this zooming in cuts out our ability to read the race. I have taken it on up high, but no change, only excuses! Our serious form students would be better off 20 years ago !

What these Johnny come latelies dont know is that I have video tapes of all of Striker's winners from the late 80's through 90's - we have definitely gone BACKWARDS on the new "betting channel"

Anyone on ABC who can help me get the videos onto cd? Please pm me.

The last 400/200 meters is a question of angle of elevation in your screen.
I have some old Greek videos, also from Kentucky and the angle is 10 degrees so there is no optical illusion.
When it is too angled, near 45 degrees, it creates optical illusion. It's not nice and it's anti-commerce too.

It's not dead easy to fix this. I have witnessed some attempts but the result was failure.
You need more and better equipment and more camera positions.

Now I don't seem to even have a site with shirt colours.
You gave me bookies.co.za once but that one is gone now.
