The trouble with making statements is that they can come back to haunt you!
Consider this : Phumelela has consistently declined - which is their right - to offer Formgrids any financial support. Interestingly they cite a number of reasons, amongst them being :
The market targeted by Formgrids is very small, is not their target market etc., and MOST INTERESTINGLY - the market which Phumelela targets and fosters (sic ) does not have computers.
Well then, dear Mr Operator, explain to me against that reality why you went to so much expense and effort to ban Betfair when, according to yourselves, your target market does not have the means to use it!
On the same rationale as the Formgrids issue it would have affected a tiny portion of your target market. And one, which it would appear, you do not set much store on if Formgrids and Betfair are any guide.
Seems to me we are led by some very muddled and contradictory thinking.
God forbid - it might have stimulated interest from a new, untapped or under serviced market sector which might even have spilled over into Tote betting...........

Plus at the same time that Betfair was a threat and banned P entered into an agreement ??
To put up SA markets on racing for everyone on the planet except the banned market of SA punters!
I might be wrong but this was my interpretation :S

The strategy of the main operator with regard to Internet /Smartphone betting is blatantly as shortsighted as the Broederbond's attitude to TV in the 60's(of course they may also remain a dominating influence within racing industry.............lol)
The mentality seems to remain "not in our lifetime" instead of a recognition of the inevitable and a move to embrace, participate and benefit.
The excuse that they concentrate on their target market is interesting as it is those very customers that are forced to endure shocking conditions in the totes............. including being closed for night racing, when that segment of the market is in recreation mode!!!!!!!!
They prefer not to spend on the security that is necessary to provide an adequate customer service and yet are happy to incur the expense of unnecessary "doubled up" of presenters on Tellytrack with no extra benefit to customers...........you figure!

Rob do you think that their vip customers like the ones that enter the champion tipsters comp etc don`t use the internet?
Look at this years charity turf challenge, they are now paying out extra because it was busier..
10 x r100 per race punters on the internet = same % take as 100 r10 per race punters in the totes

WARNING WARNING stay as far away as possible from that as there will only be one winner and his name is not gregbucks. If I had the power I would ban all forms of casino gambling on line

The experience that we are going thru in Australia is that there is an ever increasing amount of betting done through computers, both stay at home punters, and on the popular betting apps on mobile phones. I would estimate that over 25% of all betting comes this way.
The on track bookmakers hold almost no cash, except at the big meetings, relying on credit punters betting on the phones. Those on course now just take enough cash for food and drink, and do all their betting on the mobile phone apps.
