sly r u alluding to the fact that the bookies shortened captains bounty to 4/1 when all and sundry knew that the horse was gonna be scratched...if that...then i agree its absolute bull...and thievery on the part of bookies...also another issue and maybe i should open this on a separate thread,,,but if need be then Hibs can help me transfer it to a new thread,,,,...but it refers to betting where there are reserve runners.
Yesterday at turfontein race 4 ,Quad bay was priced up favourite on Friday at i think around 18/10 or so....on sat.morning there are 2 scratchings and the 2nd reserve runner comes into the race, and is priced up at even money...quad bay and the rest of the fiels are adjusted and QB is now 7/2...i know it didnt win,,but the point still stands,,,...i wasnt backing on ante post rules...when the second reserve runner came in...it changed the whole complexion of the race....if i backed QB on friday...i was reading form without the reserved runner..and surely that betting should have been null and void when the reserve runner came in.,,,,or the bookies should have 2 books open in the same race....1 with the reserved runner out and 1 with the reserved runner in....this is just daylight robbery

This kind of banditry is tolerated because punters have become used to accepting whatever is dished up to them, without seeking protection or fair play.
Add to this the fact that bookmakers do not regard themselves subject to the normal laws of contract...........ie.accept a bet at their own terms and then unilaterally declare a mistake whenever it suits.... &/or.......... Discriminate in the manner that they do busness with winners/losers contrary to the rules of normal businesses.
Also, interesting that price-fixing is accepted, but illegal in other industries.
