Ziets opinion about gold cup card

11 years 10 months ago
#376875
Got lots of requests from clanners about the card on saturday so I am pasting my write up from where you know I always post . Thank you also for those who joined to get all updates....proud to say its going nicely with 916 followers to date.Thank you for those who believe in my point of view and sharing my passion.

here is my race by race summary :

Greyville Race 1
****CHERRY TRIPPER the one I like and
great value at 12/1 and 3/1 place
currently . Any filliy that can run behind
Festival Of Fire , Franny and Cape Royal
less than a length and 4 lenghts
behind Via Africa dont belong in a
MR86 handicap. She is very speedy and
with other speedsters in the race
drawn wide she can be very hard to
peg back especially with Richard Fourie
in the saddle .... he want to make his
intentions clear why he is back from
Hong Kong and with the tight track and
short straight of greyville he can make
a fairytale start with the experienced he
gained oversees on typical tyoe of
track. Others to consider filling the
places are RASHULI BREEZE (20/1)
LAMORNA(12/1) COUNTESS OF RHYNIE
(8/1) SWELL PARTY(6/1) LONSOME
DOVE(11/2) PINK MARTINI(11/2)
Greyville Race 2
*****PANAMA MAN 11/2 win and
19/20 place one of my strongest
fancies on the card . Their must be
doubts about his ability to go 1300m
but looking at his breeding he will get
it easily with 4/5 of his siblings did win
or place over 1600-2450m .... stamina
will be no doubt......he gets chunks of
weight from most fancied runners and
Desert Sheik (last horse on my
50000/80 winning ticket on July day
and won in a photo finish) must give
him 8,5kg ......Byleveld takes the ride on
this Dennis Drier horse because
Cormack couldnt make the low weight
and if he can bump him out from an
exellent draw , sit 2nd/3rd place on
the rail and kick on top of the straight
he will be very very hard to
beat.Byleveld also an aggressive rider
when in the mood and can keep him
going. Outsider to consider to through
a spanner in the engin can be
MALIYAKHE(25/1) with a flying finish
alongside SABADELL (9/2). they will
have to pass EXCUSE MY FRENCH(8/
1)GEMMAYZE STREET(5/1) and DESERT
SHEIK (18/10) to fill the places with
PANAMA MAN my confident selection
to win .
Greyville Race 3
*****KINGSTON BOY 7/2 win and 5/
10(4places....must be a steal,sell your
house on places!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
He went down a nose to Desert sheik
on july day to make me some big
bucks but now he is the one I make a
very very strong selection this time
around . Why Doug Cambell never tried
him over further than 1200M is
mindbogglingly because Mogok
prodigy average distance is 1400m and
that is the big difference for me with
big successful trainers and the average
ones that just make a living being a
average trainer . Big trainers take
chances and do not waste time to but
horses over the distance they bred for .
Kingston boy is an above average colt
that normally flies at them at the finish
in sprints , bred for a mile but only
now trying a distance further than
1200m at his 16th start. It would never
happen in de kock , tarry , snaith , bass
or drier stable ......(just my opinion but
as everyone know ,I speak my mind
and wear my heart on my sleeve).
KINGSTON BOY can run out a very
convincing winner now that Karis know
him much better with the experience
of last short-head lost and from an
exellent draw. Outsider that can follow
him home and upset the places is
reserve runner PEREGRINE KING from
Eudey stable if getting a run in final
field. others to consider LIBERTINE
(10/1) , DAN`S APPROVAL (16/1)
SPORTSMANSHIP(16/1) and ALBERT
(12/1)
Greyville Race 4
******SHIMMERING GEM 4/1 and
17/20 places (very very good price on
places)
Very Very confident that Striker Strydom
(best jockey in the world currently in
my opinion) will get his first winner of
the day here.He only won up to 2000m
and placed over 2600m on the
highveld but is by dynasty out of a
rakeen mare and will go the distance
easily .A 2000m at turffontein is as
good as a 2400m at greyville , he have
a good draw champion jock and
inform stable that raids from highveld
and is a big plus over staying distances
with the change in altitude . Going
from altitude to sea level is
advantageous due to the increased
oxygen content of the air. He likes to
race handy and does not have the
strongest finish but if strydom can kick
going into the straight he is the man
that can keep him going. He does have
July nominee DREAMBYTHEMASTER
(6/1) as the unknown factor to beat
and AEGIS-FANG(5/1) ,huge striding
SAVAGE WIND(4/1)and best outsider
REGAL LEGENT(14/1)
Greyville Race 5
*ATHINA 7/1 and 15/10 place my
preferance but not good value if you
put a gun to my head in the most
open race on the card .Ridiculous how
the bookies priced up 4 fillies under
6/1 ....... they should be 8/1 the field
and with 4 other fillies between
33/1-75/1 in this minefield of a race
especially with 2yo fillies over ground ,
the like teenage girls lol , you never
ever know what to expect or how they
feel or going to behave ....... Stay out of
the race betting-wise and you will
enjoy seeing a close finish or a
superstar springing out from nowhere
unexpectedly.... I will even go field in
my Place accumalator and be sure
because it will be no surprise if the
weekest in the betting finish top.
Greyville Race 6
**UMGIYO 15/2 and 1.73 place in a
race where more than half the field
have a winning chance. Luck in running
will be crucial factor and with a lot of
unexposed 2yo colts having a crack at
a Grade 1 win. Lots with chances and
the likely winner can also be 15 , 7 , 4 ,
9 , 3 , 6 , 5 , 1 , 8 , 11 and 13
Will also go wide here in Place
accumalator because history showed
that the juvenile race on July day and
this race is always very very different .
Greyville Race 7-GOLD CUP 2013
******SHOGUNNAR 10/1 and 18/10 ( 4
places , very goood value although I
took some 12/1 earlier this week) . This
comment of Gavin van Zyl " Shogunnar
-I always believed that this four-year-
old Solskjaer gelding has been looking
for the Gold Cup trip" gives me even
more confidence......he said the same
thing about Seal last year before the
Gold vase on July day over 3000m and
I made him one of my "sell your house
bets and he arrived at 8/1 like a train
and this year proved to be a top top
class stayer but he , Seal , had a very
long and hard season and I personally
think its now catching up to him.
Shogunner ran 2 lengths behind Vettel
as a 3yo and very interesting fact is that
3/4 of his siblings (Kiriya , Rapid flow
and Saltwater girl) won or place over
2400m - 3200m that means
Shogunner's dam breed true stayers.....
Why Van Zyl never tried him over a
staying race was perhaps to mature ....
he is only a 1 time winner but I poject
he will be the new big stayer for the
future .....starting in the Gold
Cup!!!!!!!!!!!!
Others I will consider are BLAKE(10/1)
SAGE THRONE(20/1) PATRIOTIC REBEL
(7/1) SIL VOUS PLAIT(10/1) SEAL(8/1)
(Did any mare ever had 2 Grade 1
winners on the same day???? Its a big
possibility in Grade 1 Thekwini Stakes
and Grade 1 R1,25 Million Gold Cup
with ADMIRAL`S EYE(11/2) x
SHOGUNNAR(10/1) for the Elliodor
mare Surfers Eye .....70/1 sentimental
double I will take to see possible
history being made)
Greyville race 8 - Grade 1 Champions
Cup
*****RUN FOR IT 3/1 and 13/20 place
huge huge winning chance and a
confident selection, 3rd run after a rest
and will close my 20/1 Striker double
on the day...... He had a very quiet
season and still fresh after a masterful
performance in the july on his 2nd run
after rest, he have striker up that will
improve him even more and their is no
chance that JACKSON(5/2) , also
running fresh and been prepped by
Master dennis drier, can give Run for it
3KG (3-5 LENGTHS ) after his
performance in the July when
improvement was expected after being
gelded. This is your big one for the
year Justin, go fetch it and thank
strydom for a great ride !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
JET JAMBOREE(14/1) WHITELINE FEVER
(10/1) and NO WORRIES(6/1) to fill 3rd
and 4th place
Greyville Race 9- Grade 2 Gold Bracelet
***LOUVRE 8/1 and 1.52 place yes yes
yes I KNOW ......she is a 1400-1600m
specialist but she can surprise a lot by
going to the front and slow everything
down for a breather before the turn
up to the straight and kick away from
them and play a catch me if you can
race. Almost all of her competitors
except DYLAN`S PROMISE is horses
coming from of the pace and then the
pace must be quick and most like a
more testing track with longer straight.
If Strydom was riding LOUVRE I would
be very very confident but Forbes is a
good judge and can pull a stunt at
best .LOUVRE did win her maiden over
1800M and her full brother is a stayer
that runs 2000-2600m so it will not be
a surprise to see her see out this
2000m . HAPPY ARCHER(8/1) EUROPE
TO AFRICA(8/1) JET BELLE(12/10)
RAZZLE DAZZLE ROSE (10/1) and
CHECCETTI(14/1) the main dangers
Greyville Race 10
Very wide open race and here is where
a lot can crash and burn , but I like
**FOURTH ESTATE 25/1 an

Greyville Race 10
Very wide open race and here is where
a lot can crash and burn , but I like
**FOURTH ESTATE 25/1 and 5.75 place
as my outsider of the day to surprise
all "superstars that failed when
tested" ........course and distance form
is 4 wins and 2 x 2nd places in 12
starts , he comes from off the pace
and is drawn widest at 12 ......but he is
well handicapped on best ability rating
and it can be a bundle finish against
DISTINGUISHED(12/1) GRASP YOUR
DESTINY(25/1) CHERBOURG(12/1)
CORREDOR(11/2) GENERAL SHERMAN
(11/2) YORKER(4/1) EMPEROR
AUGUSTUS(7/1) and RED BARREL(5/1)
and I will include all in Jackpot.
Greyville Race 11
Again open and will be going field in
Jackpot ..... The bookies priced up 5/8
horses under 6/1 .......daylight robbery
with absolute no value on any of these
runners , they should have had
shortest 6/1 in the betting......anybody
going big in this race is punting with
guts and praying for glory because I
can make a winning case for every
runner here but if need to stick out my
neck my choice will be *NEGEV 7/2 and
6/10 place just for the fact that she is
peaking right time and good draw and
her only 3 runs over 1400m resulted in
a win , a 2nd place in the 2,5mil RTR
and another 2nd place , 1 length
behind highly rated Orator's
Daughter......
Do not leave any out of Jackpot
Greyville Race 12
****JADE BAY 7/1 1.47 very very
speedy sort and Striker can outpace
them from a draw not exellent but still
inside the fancied runners in the
betting ......Only Striker have the ability
to keep him going from flying
WELWITSCHIA(22/10) .....
Hope you find this wright-up
interesting and valuable in your
selections for all the competitions and
bets for the big day !!!!!
Would you guys want my suggested
bets for the day, few all to comes I
took and will take , yankees, pa ,
jackpots and Pick 6 ?
LET ME KNOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! I am always
willing to help

Thanks ZO for your take on Gold Cup Day. I draw your attention to the buy-in competition taking place tomorrow - only R 100.00 - and we already 30 strong. You still well in time to take part. Come and give us a punting lesson.

Scotia - Please bend his arm into taking part in the Buy-in competition and I will buy you a drink. He should be able to afford the R 100.00 entry fee.

I will make it my prayer tonight that ZO will join us for the Compo.
